Niagara Falls Cultural Hub & Farmers' Market
At Tuesday's meeting, Council approved the recommendations to move forward with the Cultural Hub and Farmers' Market. Presentations were made by staff and project consultant, dtah, regarding the architectural, operating and business plan of the new Cultural Hub & Farmers' Market. Staff will explore other funding opportunities including federal infrastructure funding applications.

Modernizing Alcohol Sales
At Tuesday's meeting, Council moved to support the growth of Niagara and Ontario’s wine and craft beer industry, its beverage related tourism, and its local economic development. A request will be made to the Provincial Government to include specific policies that support and expand growth of all wine and beer made in Ontario in its retail channel regulation.

A colourful bunch of straws: Ditch the plastic in your drink. The City is switching to reusable & recyclable alternatives at our facilities and events.
Plastic Straw & Stir Stick Ban
The Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee (MYAC) successfully presented Council with a recommendation to extend the City's plastic water bottle ban and also permit only recyclable or reusable alternatives to plastic straws and stir sticks at City facilities and events.

Millennium Recreation Trail
Council approved recommendations from Staff to proceed with the development of Section 2 of the Millennium Trail along the east side of the OPG Canal and eliminate the proposed pedestrian bridge crossing. The revised project budget was also approved.

Water System Overview, Planning & Updates
Council received and approved the recommendations made in several Staff reports and presentations on the City's water system and programs as well as a presentation on the long-range financial plan by consulting firm, BMA, at Tuesday's meeting.

Commercial Parking Lots: 2019 Licensing & Enforcement
Commercial parking lot owners and operators can expect more enforcement of the City's new licensing and related by-laws. Council voted unanimously in favour of the Victoria BIA's request for more enforcement in 2019.

Demolition of Former Court House and City Hall
In light of recent findings presented by the Ontario Environmental & Safety Network Ltd. (OESN), and the assessment of prospective restoration and demolition costs, Council accepted Staff recommendations to demolish the Former Court House and City Hall.

Citizen Recognition
Mayor Diodati and Fire Chief Boutilier, on behalf of the members of City Council and the Niagara Falls Fire Department, recognized the exceptional bravery and selfless rescue efforts of Steve Heinrich, Brian Clark and Marie Fleming for taking quick action upon noticing an apartment fire, to ensure a neighbour's safe exit from the building, thereby avoiding further injuries or loss of life. Certificates of Bravery and medals were presented.

On behalf of the City of Niagara Falls and members of Council, we wish the Niagara Falls Canucks Jr. B hockey team good luck as they advance to the 2019 Sutherland Cup Semi-Finals. Proclamation: National Day of Mourning
At Tuesday's meeting, Council approved a request from the Niagara Regional Labour Council to observe April 28, 2019, as the National Day of Mourning, and remember those who have suffered and died on the job by flying all flags at half mast. A ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. on April 28 at the Worker's Monument at City Hall (4310 Queen Street).
