17th Annual Sleep Cheap Charities Reap Event and Reservation Dates Announced
NIAGARA FALLS, ON - Sleep Cheap Charities Reap, a long standing community tradition, has raised over $2,150,082 for local charities since its inception in 2004. And though it may look different this year, Sleep Cheap will take place in 2020.
Mayor Jim Diodati stated that “We know these are very extraordinary circumstances, but after careful deliberation, and in consultation with local hoteliers, we have decided the event should go on. I am confident in the excellent protocols and procedures the hotels, as essential services, have instituted to safely accommodate Niagara Region residents during Sleep Cheap. And I know the struggles that many charities are facing to meet their fundraising targets this year due to cancelled initiatives and events, set against increases in demand for their services.”
For the first time in history, Sleep Cheap will run a for full week, from Sunday November 15th up to and including Saturday November 21st . Reservations for the event can be made starting Friday, October 23, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. Participating hotels and booking information can be found online at sleepcheapcharitiesreap.com.
Many of Niagara Falls’ finest hotels will offer rooms, at a discounted rate, to Niagara Region residents only during the event. Minimum donations for rooms will remain the same as last year for Sunday through Thursday: $35 per night for a standard room, $45 for a Fallsview room, and $65 for a whirlpool room. Room rates on Friday and Saturday nights will see an extra $10 per night added to the weekday rates. Participants will also be able to book 2 nights stays this year.
Rooms with access to waterparks will not be available for Sleep Cheap 2020 year due to Provincial restrictions in place. Participants are to contact hotels directly to confirm available amenities and COVID-19 protocols.
Sleep Cheap is also pleased to announce the following extra feature for Niagara Region residents:
- Greg Frewin’s Las Vegas Style Magical Show, WILD MAGIC, performed by International Grand Champion of Magic, Greg Frewin dazzles audiences of all ages! This Vegas-Style show is full of jaw dropping Illusions, mind bending magic, exotic birds and majestic live tigers. Check the Sleep Cheap website for dates, show times and ticket prices.
Please note that the WonderFalls Pass, offering access to 10 local attractions, will not be offered this year.
Charitable Donation Application
The Sleep Cheap Charities Reap Committee is seeking applications from local charities and registered not-for-profits serving residents of the City of Niagara Falls that are interested in receiving a donation from funds generated by the annual, “Sleep Cheap Charities Reap”, initiative. Charities should be aware that we receive far more requests than we are able to support at one time, and that a decision not to support does not necessarily reflect on the merit of the request. This is will be especially true for the 2020 event, with decreased funds to distribute due to the pandemic.
Eligibility requirements and application forms are available on the City’s website niagarafalls.ca. Please note that the application deadline is Friday, November 20, 2020.
The 2020 recipients of the charitable donations, as selected by the Sleep Cheap Charities Reap Committee through the application process, will be announced in December. 100% of the funds raised through Sleep Cheap benefits local charities.
About Sleep Cheap Charities Reap
In 2004, then Councillor Jim Diodati initiated an event to celebrate the City’s 100th Anniversary and promote goodwill between the tourist industry and the residents of the City of Niagara Falls. Sleep Cheap Charities Reap took the concept a step further in 2005, supporting some of Niagara’s most deserving charities. The event provides an opportunity for Niagara Falls residents to experience some of the City’s most prestigious hotel properties and attractions for a fraction of the cost, and the proceeds are donated to a fund benefitting local charities
