NIAGARA FALLS POETRY PROJECT

Dedicated to the poetry of Niagara Falls – the waterfalls, river, city, people, and history. A section of the site is also being developed to showcase Niagara poets. The very first poem that contains a reference to Niagara Falls is by Le Sievr de la Franchise, published in 1604.

Exhibition Assistance Programme
Current Deadline— THURSDAY 15 OCTOBER 2020
Grant Amount Minimum $500, Maximum $2000
Plan that project NOW! This is a relatively easy grant to get.

This program assists with the artists’ costs related to the presentation of artwork in a confirmed, public exhibition. For Ontario-based visual artists, craft artists, media artists and artist collectives who have a confirmed, upcoming public exhibition. Why not do a show in a laundromat? Or a car wash? Find a public place and go for it!

Eligible expenses:
-presentation costs, including framing, display structures, mounting and installation hardware and supplies and construction of structural elements specific to an installation
-audio-visual presentation equipment
-technical and installation expenses and fees, including the cost of preparing or documenting artwork to present in a virtual/online exhibition
-crating and transportation of works of art
-exhibition venue rent or booth fee
-exhibition promotional expenses
-insurance

Opening September 25, “North Is Freedom”, an evocative photographic essay by Canadian photographer Yuri Dojc which celebrate the lives of the descendants of freedom-seekers who escaped slavery in the US in the years before the American Civil War.  Sept 26- Jan 10 INFO

An exhibition co-created with Justice 4 Black Lives founder, Sherri Darlene, will run simultaneously to North is Freedom in the Ontario Power Generation Gallery. Through the use of images and artefacts, this exhibition marks a historic day in our City, when more than 4000 people came together on June 6, 2020 for a peaceful demonstration to help break the barriers of systemic racism. Sept 26 - Jan 10 INFO
HISTORY OF HERITAGE ALONG THE NIAGARA RIVER
This discussion with Jim Hill, Senior Manager of Heritage at Niagara Parks will look at the heritage properties that they manage and maintain.  Discussing the history, maintenance and stories behind the buildings, brick walls, fencing and people who have worked on this legacy.  We will also discuss the future of some of the properties and the challenges of maintaining this important landscape.

The Niagara Falls Museums teamed up with Landscape of Nations 360⁰ to create an exciting new virtual exhibition that explores the Museums’ collections of Indigenous artifacts as curated through the perspective of Indigenous curators and their allies.

So this year we pared down on the party, but engaged a handful of great artists to create wonderful pieces! All of the art is living on in some capacity, through rentals, multiple displays or still in place. Here is a video by @juice_willis.ent and @niagaramurals that shares some of the work.
