Original Art Created for Lundy’s Lane Utility Boxes
NIAGARA FALLS, ON - The City of Niagara Falls, in collaboration with Department of Recreation and Culture, the Lundy’s Lane BIA, and the Niagara Falls Public Art Advisory Task Force, is pleased to announce the winner for the Niagara Falls Utility Box Art Program is local artist Sonia Wilkinson. In partnership with the Niagara Region, Bell and Niagara Peninsula Energy, Sonia’s original artwork has been wrapped in vinyl on 11 utility boxes along Lundy’s Lane from Garner Road to Montrose Road.
“While working on this series for the utility boxes, the colours became one of the most important aspects for me. I wanted to use vibrant colours, very much like our vibrant culture. Each box has either one or several faces,” said Sonia Wilkinson. “Each box is a celebration of our differences.”
An official unveiling of the Utility Box Artwork Program will be held on Wednesday October 16th at 4pm at Lundy’s Lane at Kalar on the Southwest corner at Kalar. Parking is available adjacent in the FreshCo parking lot.
The Utility Box Artwork Program is the first of a few installments of artwork on Lundy’s Lane, as the City is beginning completion of the first phase of streetscaping.
