Cannabis: We're in!

At Tuesday's meeting, Council voted to opt in to allowing retail cannabis stores in Niagara Falls and will send a resolution to the province requesting greater control over locations, distance separations and the number of stores in the city. Council will also work towards harmonizing the City's anti-smoking by-law with amendments to the Niagara Region's anti-smoking by-law and will work with the Public Health Department on public consultations regarding additional areas where tobacco, cannabis, and related products can be smoked or otherwise consumed.

Council has approved the updated Winter Maintenance Policy Plan which establishes levels of service for snow and ice control across the city for all types of roadways and sidewalks, to ensure the safe and efficient movement of people, goods and services.

At Tuesday's Council Meeting, Catherine Habermebl, Acting Commissioner, Public Works, and Brad Whitelaw, Program Manager, Policy Planning, made a presentation to Council on proposed changes to collection options for the Region's next contract which is set to begin by 2021.

Report: New Council Procedural By-Law

At Tuesday's Council Meeting, Council passed the new City of Niagara Falls Procedural By-Law which aims to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of Council and Committee meetings and reflect Bill 68, Modernizing Ontario's Municipal Legislation Act changes to the Municipal Act, 2001.
