CME introduces enhanced reporting system for preceptors

Des Moines University Continuing Medical Education has implemented an online reporting system for physicians who precept osteopathic medical students. The new system, which launched January 1, replaces the previous method of submitting preceptor hours through student evaluations. Read the story, which includes a brief instructional video, for additional information regarding the online reporting system. Story

2013-2015 AOA CME Deadline Extended

At the recent meeting of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Board of Trustees, it was decided that the deadline for AOA Members to meet the 2013-2015 CME requirements would be extended through May 31, 2016. AOA members will have the option to apply credits earned from January 1, 2016 through May 31, 2016 to the 2013-2015 CME Cycle. Story

Ultrasound Workshop

Ultrasound: The Stethoscope of the 21st Century

Ultrasound technology can give health care providers in-depth insights into their patients’ conditions without using invasive procedures or ionizing radiation, as x-rays and CT scans do. Ultrasound is rapidly moving from the radiology suite to a portable bedside diagnostic tool, with nearly all medical specialties using bedside ultrasound. DMU recently hosted a unique point-of-care ultrasound workshop in which members of the surrounding medical community were invited to learn best-practices for the technique. Story

IPF Partnership

A diverse partnership for a difficult disease

Des Moines University Continuing Medical Education was recently awarded a grant from The France Foundation to provide the educational program, PILOT (Pulmonary Fibrosis Identification: Lessons for Optimizing Treatment). The grant was part of a national initiative designed to provide physicians with a comprehensive CME activity that focuses on the early and accurate diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) while also addressing critical issues related to optimizing disease intervention and management. Story

The more than 500 graduate and undergraduate students, faculty members, staff, residents and other researchers who attended the 2015 DMU Research Symposium on Dec. 3 enjoyed a stimulating mix of scientific topics and difficult questions posed on the ethics of research itself. Story
