Thank You For Your Participation In The Most #PrivacyAware Data Privacy Day Yet!


Dear Friend of the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA),

As we look back on Data Privacy Day 2017 – an international effort held annually on Jan. 28 to create awareness about the importance of respecting privacy, safeguarding data and enabling trust – it's clear to us that our many successes this year would not have been possible without your support.

Building tremendous momentum in 2017, Data Privacy Day's broad range of stakeholders and NCSA staff led the charge on the creation of press materials, privacy resources, shareable collateral, blogs, social media activities, a comprehensive media toolkit, proactive media outreach and contributed news articles to top-tier outlets. In addition, with the support of sponsors and partners, Data Privacy Day 2017 was officially recognized at a daylong event livestreamed from Twitter's headquarters in San Francisco on Jan. 26. This powerful new forum provided a global stage to discuss the most pressing privacy issues of the day. 

Here are some noteworthy highlights from Data Privacy Day 2017:

  • The overall estimated media reach increased 39% from 800 million in 2016 to 1.1 billion+ in 2017.
  • In 2017, there were 587 media stories about Data Privacy Day – growth of 112%, compared to 277 stories the prior year.
  • 450 organizations registered as Data Privacy Day 2017 Champions – an increase of 24% over last year's 363. The individual Champions program grew as well, with a total of 213 supporters in comparison to 129 in 2016 – a 65% increase.
  • The Data Privacy Day hashtags (#PrivacyAware and #DataPrivacyDay) were tweeted 25,369 times in January 2017 alone.
  • #ChatSTC – the hashtag for NCSA's Twitter chats – had a potential reach of 5,142,544 during the month of January 2017 – a 65% increase over the hashtag's reach in January 2016.
  • The Data Privacy Day 2017 event, held on Jan. 26, was streamed live from Twitter HQ in San Francisco via Livestream, Periscope and Facebook Live and watched by more than 6,300 viewers – a significant increase from the hundreds who tuned in to watch the 2016 event.
