It's finally here! Our Steering Committee Elections for Building Healthy Communities Long Beach is tomorrow night!

Thursday, July 18th
4:00pm- 6:30pm

First Lutheran Church

For those of you that participated in the first Steering Committee Elections two years ago, this year's format will seem very similar. Adult residents will vote for adult residents, youth residents will vote for youth residents and everyone will weigh in on our community organizations representatives. Because of this format it is VERY IMPORTANT that we have as many BHC Long Beach Hub Member turn out as possible!

So please join us! We will have light refreshments, interpretation and child watch available. Please encourage your friends, co-workers, colleagues and anyone you know involved with BHC Long Beach to come!

The Children's Clinic has been offering healthcare to many under-served families in Long Beach since 1933. As one of two federal grantees (the other is St. Mary Medical Center) in Long Beach, TCC will play a very important role in helping to ensure that low-income families will have access to healthcare by the time more of the Affordable Care Act's provisions become effective on January 1, 2014.

BHC AMERICORPS

AmeriCorps Logo

BHC Statewide has combined forces with AmeriCorps to provide direct youth mentoring services. In Long Beach, we have 10 AmeriCorps members working with Long Beach Youth to address positive youth development and resiliency, offer youth skills and support to increase physical and emotional safety, decrease violence, and lay the foundation for healthy and productive lives.

Are you undocumented? Do you know someone who is undocumented? Do you want access to health care?

Come share your stories with us, the dream summer interns at Khmer Girls in Action! We'd love to hear about how you get access to health care, and all the barriers you face in accessing health care.

The affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) excludes undocumented and DACA eligible inidividuals. California holds the largest undocumented population in the U.S. who are also excluded. We want to hear your stories about the barriers you face in accessing health care in order to better address these issues and bring our immigrant communities into the conversation around health care.

YWCA Roundtable Networking Breakfast

Quarterly Social Service Roundtable Networking Breakfast and Resource Meeting hosted by YWCA of Greater Los Angeles, Sexual Assault Crisis Services.

A training on "Bystander Intervention" will take place on this Friday, July 19th from 10am- 2pm, facilitated by the California Coalition Against Sexual Abuse CALCASA.

This event will be hosted at our YWCA Greater Los Angeles Empowerment Center location at 1600 East Compton Blvd, Compton CA 90221. In attendance there will be several community based agencies that provide vital human services to the residents of South Los Angeles and in surrounding communities. This meeting will provide you the opportunity to learn more about our agency as well as the services provided by our invited guests.

Please bring your materials along to the event as a resource table will be provided to give you the opportunity to share brochures and informationa bout your services with our guests. Refreshments will be served. There will be time on the agenda for you to also share your programs services.

Our goal is for this event to continue to be a local social service network roundtable utilized to better coordinate and enhance clinical and program services for the residents of South Los Angeles, Compton and the South Bay.
