Action Alert 1: Oil Train Parade & Paddle
Background:  After decades of clean water efforts, crude oil train traffic — an ill-advised pipeline on rails snaking through Milwaukee — threatens our water, our health and our safety. Join Citizens Acting for Rail Safety and the Milwaukee Riverkeeper to show your support for clean water and safe communities and to say "Get Explosive Oil Trains Off the Tracks and Bridges".
3:00 pm PARADE on the Milwaukee River Walk beginning at E. Chicago St. in the Third Ward
GUIDED RIVER PADDLE with the Milwaukee Riverkeeper Bring a boat (launch site TBA) or reserve one ahead of time with the Milwaukee Kayak Company. Plan to arrive at 2 pm for boat rental or launching and decoration.
4:00 pm CONVERGENCE CELEBRATION of clean water advocates on the River and on the River Walk at the Confluence of the Milwaukee and Menomonee Rivers, by the railroad swing bridge in the Third Ward.

Action Alert 2:  Rescheduled - Racial Justice Tipping Point Direct Action Conference Call
Background: Join us for the first of three conference calls for the Racial Justice Tipping Point campaign. This call will focus on various direct actions around the state, including discussing community control of the police, hearing from Voces de la Frontera, as well as updates on the hunger strike at Waupun and Colombia Corrections. Call participants have the opportunity to talk in small groups about work they are doing and questions they have.
Take Action: Participate on July 19th! Click here to register for this call to learn more about what community leaders are doing and how you can participate.
Contact for More Info: Email or call 608-250-9240
Action Alert 3:  Bring ALL Troops Home from Afghanistan!
Background:  On July 6, President Obama announced his intention to maintain 8,400 troops on the ground and in harms way in Afghanistan. United for Peace and Justice opposes this continuation of ENDLESS WAR that has neither reduced incidences of terrorism throughout the world, nor made life safer for the people of Afghanistan or here at home.
Take Action:  Please add your name to UFPJ’s appeal to the President and demand that he immediately withdraw all U.S. troops from Afghanistan and commit to regional diplomacy that begins to build a solid foundation for a nuclear and weapons-of-mass-destruction free Middle East.

Action Alert 4:  Hold Chief Koval Accountable
Background: Progressive Dane is urging people in Madison to let their elected officials know that we support their efforts to improve our community police. We are urging them to:
1. File a complaint against Chief Koval for his incendiary blog post and antics at the June 7th council meeting. Let the community and police know this is not acceptable behavior from our leaders, especially in our police department.
2. Explore what power they have to implement new policies now. Do not wait for the study to be done for some of the most obvious deficiencies to be fixed. If the beating of Genele Laird is acceptable under our current policies, our current polices are unacceptable.
More information can be found in this weeks article, "Can the Madison Common Council hold a Police Chief accountable?"
Take Action: Please join us in urging council members to do this by signing the petition.
