Three Reasons to Plan Your Memorial Day the Scouting Way

Ah, the joys of Memorial Day, that three day weekend that signals the imminent end of the “grind” of the school year for all us parents of young kids. But how do you make Memorial Day a blast for the whole family?  Here are three reasons that camping Oso Lake or Lost Valley this Memorial Day is worth a look. These two BSA properties are open to families of Scouts and non-Scouts with staffed program areas. Here's why it's just about the best three-day vacation a family can plan:

1. No crowds.
Trying camping at a state or regional park on a holiday weekend – if you can get a reservation on one of their often postage stamp-sized camping spots, you always run the risk of rowdy, noisy neighbors and alcohol that makes this choice not so family-friendly.

2. Endless activities.
Both Oso Lake and Lost Valley
will have a staff with open program areas for archery, BB gun and rifle shooting (.22 caliber and shotgun shooting are available at Lost Valley), horseback riding (at Lost Valley), arts and crafts, and a variety of other activities. You can cook for yourself, or sign up for the affordable meal plan that takes all the work out of feeding your clan during this camping trip.

3.The friends you will make.
In a camp full of like-minded families from a Scouting
background, you can be sure that you and your kids will be mixing with quality people. Bring along another family from your pack or troop to grow the party more. Last year at Lost Valley, over Memorial Day, my family really enjoyed the friendliness of other campers and the constant companionship our kids found all throughout camp. We brought along another family from our church, and they too commented on what a safe and enjoyable environment our Scout camp was for a family camping holiday weekend.

Family camping at Oso Lake and Lost Valley over the holiday weekend is easy, safe, and affordable. Click here to sign up your family for the biggest no-brainer in a family fun this Memorial Day weekend.
