What's Happening Around the Main Street District 

Smoked is Scheduled to Open this Fall

It’s officially in the works! Smoked will soon be Columbia’s newest restaurant and microbrewery at 1643 Main Street. Be the first to know and sign up for news alerts at

Scott Middleton’s latest project in the 1600 block of Main Street plans to open an oyster bar, barbecue restaurant, and microbrewery in 2021. 

An oyster bar with a skylight will be the center attraction, flanked by the main bar area and a private dining room. There will also be an outdoor patio and an external kitchen.  

Local companies Garvin Design Group and Mashburn Construction are handling the buildout and design.  Construction is slated to wrap up in early August.

CDL Presents Dinner by Design: Visions from an Indian Kitchen

Join the Columbia Design League (CDL) for a virtual feast for all the senses from the comfort of your own home. Rita Patel, owner and founder of Hotel Trundle, and her brother, actor Manish Dayal (The 100 Foot Journey, The Resident, and 90210), lead a cyber cooking class, while Kristian Niemi, owner of Columbia restaurants Black Rooster and Bourbon, crafts a mango rum cocktail inspired by the exhibition Visions from India.

Throughout the evening, enjoy virtual gallery pop-ins with CMA Curator Catherine Walworth in the Visions from India galleries on the final day of the exhibition. Who is City Center Partnership and the BID?
In 2001, City Center Partnership was formed to manage the downtown Business Improvement District in the 36-block area bounded by Gervais, Elmwood, Assembly and Marion streets in Columbia, SC. The organization provides public space management, economic development, place management, marketing services, and public advocacy for the Main Street District.
The Board of Directors oversee the organization’s mission — to focus on filling vacancies in commercial properties, retaining existing downtown businesses and recruiting new ones, expanding the downtown residential base, and creating a safe, clean, and friendly downtown environment.
