What's Happening Around the Main Street District 

Topgolf is Coming to Main Street!

A Topgolf Swing Suite facility is set to open this fall in The Venue on Main, which is directly behind Michael's in the 1600 block of Main Street. The property will be known as The Venue on Main Topgolf Swing Suite.
A Topgolf Swing Suite lets customers take swings in golf simulator "bays," while also offering lounge seating and a full food and drink menu. The Main Street Swing Suite will have five different bays.

Congratulations to the Prioreschi Family for Celebrating 20 Years on Main Street!

Congratulations are in order for our friends and Main Street pioneers, Capitol Places. In July 1998, they bought the Kress Building and began the visionary process of bringing apartment living to downtown Columbia. Twenty years on Main Street! Thank you for helping create an exciting and vibrant neighborhood to live, shop, work, and play!

City Center Partnership is Pleased to Announce a New Bike Repair Stand is Up on Main Street

Thanks to What’s Next Midlands and the Cola Town Bike Collective, Midlands cyclists need no longer worry about being stranded by a flat tire or minor mechanical mishaps.  The project is supported by many local organizations and businesses, including City Center Partnership. 
 
“We are proud to support and help fund the bike repair station for the Main Street District,” said Matt Kennell, President and CEO of City Center Partnership.  “This is one of many great efforts to ensure that Columbia becomes one of the top bike-friendly cities in the country.”

Twenty-two women — in professions from airport services to library science — have been named the 2018 Women of Influence by the Columbia Regional Business Report.  Included in this list of remarkable women are City Center Partnership Board members: Rita Patel, co-owner of Hotel Trundle and Melanie Huggins, Executive Director of Richland Library.  Congratulations to everyone!

The awards reception will be held on Thursday, August 9th at noon at DoubleTree by Hilton Columbia.

Main Street Rotary Club Members Highlight Main Street District for Foreign Dignitary

Members of the Main Street Rotary Club (MSRC) of Columbia assembled to highlight the revitalization of the Main Street District to visiting Consulate-General of Japan, Mr. Takashi (Thomas) Shinozuka, who is also a fellow Rotarian from Atlanta Rotary Club.  Mr. Shinozuka was in Columbia to meet with Representative Joe Wilson.

Palmetto Health Named a Finalist for the International Hospital Federation Award

Palmetto Health is one of three health systems in the United States to be named as a finalist for the International Hospital Federation (IHF) Award program. The award recognizes innovation, excellence, outstanding achievements, and best practices of hospitals and healthcare organizations. Palmetto Health is a finalist in the Corporate Social Responsibility category and was recognized for “Our Tithe: A commitment to caring for our community.” Applications came from 33 countries and 118 organizations, with only 27 health systems around the world selected as finalists.

The CMA is Closed for Renovations – Will Reopen on Friday, August 17

Due to renovations, the CMA is closed to the public. Museum staff are working and will be available on weekdays via phone or email. The CMA will reopen for visitors on Friday, August 17, with their newly installed collection galleries and two featured exhibitions.

The CMA is Accepting Nominations for its Enduring Spirit Awards

The Enduring Spirit Awards honor the outstanding achievements of African American women in the Midlands who are working to improve their communities. This year marks the second annual presentation of the awards.
 
The deadline for nominations is August 17, 2018. To nominate a deserving African American woman in your community, go to columbiamuseum.org/faaac to complete an application form. The Writer’s Block Poetry Show

Who is City Center Partnership and the BID?
In 2001, City Center Partnership was formed to manage the downtown Business Improvement District in the 36-block area bounded by Gervais, Elmwood, Assembly and Marion streets in Columbia, SC. The organization provides public space management, economic development, place management, marketing services, and public advocacy for the Main Street District.
The Board of Directors oversee the organization’s mission — to focus on filling vacancies in commercial properties, retaining existing downtown businesses and recruiting new ones, expanding the downtown residential base, and creating a safe, clean, and friendly downtown environment.
