BST is pleased to announce a substantial gift from The Ledbetter Family Trust, a legacy from the estate of Rev. Dr. James T. and Faithe C. Ledbetter. The money from the gift will be used to establish the “Faithe C. and James T. Ledbetter Scholarship" to help students attending BST for generations to come, and to support the establishment of the Center for Truth, Justice, and Racial Reconciliation.
Jim was part of the BBDS class of 1954 and remained active with both the school and his fellow alums. He was a trustee from 1981-85 and 89-94 and received an honorary doctorate in 1988. Additionally, Jim and Faithe were part of the Berkeley Bash gathering of alums for over 50 years. Ordained to the Christian ministry by the First Baptist Church of Chowchilla, Jim pastored several American Baptist Churches (ABC), including Yakima WA, Richland WA, Honolulu HI, Port Angeles WA, and Redding CA and later in his ministry served as a denominational leader in the Northwest Inland Empire and Southern CA, retiring in 1994 as Executive Minister of the ABC of Oregon (Central Pacific Coast). Faithe was very involved in ministry in a musical capacity and was dedicated to serving Christ with her talent until just before she died. Jim and Faithe were parents of Karen, Tim (M.Div ’81), and Greg (M.Div ’84) and loyal ministers of the gospel, always working toward racial justice and peace and serving those around them, especially the homeless.
This gift is a testimony to the lives and ministry of these wonderful saints and will stand as an enduring legacy. BST is excited for the opportunities this gift presents and is thankful to Faithe and Jim for this incredible contribution.
