Volunteers receive complimentary admission to the event at which they volunteer. Tasks may include: set-up, break-down, ushering, and registration. Thank you Alan Roselius!
Today, September 30th, longtime BST employee Alan Roselius, will be retiring. Alan has been a maintenance technician for Berkeley School of Theology for nearly 40 years. For the past four decades, Alan's physical work, community engagement, generous spirit, and tireless dedication has blessed everyone at BST and beyond. His legacy of steadfast love lives on in the bricks and mortar of BST and in the hearts of all who have known him from generation to generation. Congratulations Alan and enjoy retirement!
Meet new Board of Trustees Members
BST is pleased to announce that the Board of Trustees have elected 4 trustees to start at the beginning of the year. Rev. Steve Bils, Executive Minister of the American Baptist Churches of the Central Pacific Coast returns to the board after a one year break. First time BST trustees elected are Rev. Dr. Lone Lazum, Senior Pastor at Oakland Burmese Mission Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Roy Medley, Retired General Secretary of the ABCUSA, and Rev. Dr. Dwight Webster, Senior Pastor of Beth Eden Baptist Church. These new trustees bring a wide range of backgrounds and experience which will strengthen the Board.
BST Names Rev. Celinda Miranda as Alum of the Year
BST alum Rev. Celinda Miranda (M.Div ‘07) has been named as the Berkeley School of Theology Alum of The Year for the academic year 2022-23.
She is currently serving as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at San Jose State University working with students there. She is active in her church, Immanuel Baptist Church of San Jose, and also works with the Teen Interfaith Council, directing the annual coat giveaway.
BST is so proud of Rev. Miranda and how she represents BST in the community. Congratulations to Rev. Miranda on this honor!
BST Faculty Member Visits White House
Last month, Green The Church Founder and BST Faculty Member Rev. Dr. Ambrose Carroll (pictured here on left), joined leading climate activists for a ceremony at the White House celebrating the Inflation Reduction Act, a historic package designed to lower costs for families and take significant climate action. The bill was signed into law on August 16, 2022 by President Biden.
BST Welcomes New Faculty Member
As part of the recent “Pathways for Tomorrow” $1M Lilly Grant received by BST, we are happy to announce the newest member of our faculty, Dr. Brian Leander, Associate Professor and Director of Intercultural Leadership. Dr. Leander comes to us with a deep commitment and proven track record in serving denominations, congregations, nonprofits, civic organizations and higher education in intercultural leadership development.
At BST, Dr. Leander will help expand our certificate and degree programs and increase our impact in creating diversity oriented congregations/pastors/ nonprofit leadership. He holds an M.A. (’07) and Ph.D. (’14) in (Intercultural) Organizational Development and served most recently in various academic and campus-wide administrative roles at Adelphi University, where he has taught and worked since 2007. His awards in diversity leadership development include, the national gold Anthem Award for Rise Academy for Leaders of Color (2022) and the Dr. MLK, Jr. Award by Nassau County Commission on Human Rights (2020). He is a member in the Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society. We are excited to welcome Dr. Leander, who begins his service on Oct 1, 2022.
BST mourns the loss of Lesley Jean Huffer (‘59), who passed away last month. She is survived by her husband Bruce (‘58) and many other family members. She and Bruce met at BST (then BBDS) and spent more of their lives in the Upper Midwest. Lesley had a career in Christian Education, always serving in churches where Bruce was pastoring. She eventually became a pre-school teacher and worked in the public school system in Manitowoc, WI, where they lived.
BST offers our deepest condolences to Bruce and all of her family and loved ones on their loss.
