MoU with the Department of Education

OLE Nepal and Ministry of Education's Department of Education (DoE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 25, 2012 to expand the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to improve education quality and access in Nepal's public schools. The agreement signed by Mr. Kamal Prasad Pokhrel, Director of DoE, and, Mr. Rabi Karmacharya, Executive Director of OLE Nepal, further extends the close working relations that OLE Nepal has had with DoE since 2007. Teacher Training & Capacity Building

Trainers from OLE Nepal conducted a training on progressive child-centric instructional approach to 46 primary and lower-secondary teachers from ten public schools from Tandrang VDC and one from Aarupokhari VDC in Gorkha district. The training held on January 7 - 14, 2012 was a collaborative effort of Children of the Mountain (COTM), a UK registered charity, and OLE Nepal. Read more

E-Pustakalaya News

The quarterly meeting of E-Pustakalaya's Advisory Panel was held on January 10, 2012 at OLE Nepal. The meeting discussed the accomplishments of 2011, and plans for 2012. The meeting also agreed to invite legendary film producer and litterateur Yadav Kharel to join the Panel. Mr. Kharel has since responded positively to the invitation, and we look forward to expand the multimedia collection in E-Pustakalaya with his advice and guidance. Read more

Monitoring and Support visits

OLE Nepal carried out monitoring visits to three OLPC program schools in Kapilvastu and five in Makwanpur from February 28 to March 5, 2012. During the visit the team updated digital content in school servers, carried out maintenance of school network where required, took stock of the overall program status and discussed steps and support needed to ensure schools and students continue to reap benefit from the ICT-integrated classes. Survey Visit to Rupandehi

As reported in the previous newsletter, OLE Nepal is partnering with Skoleliv i Nepal, a Danish Association, to implement ICT-integrated teaching-learning project at Shree Shanti Priya School in Singaha in Kerwani VDC in Rupandehi district.

Other News

OLE Nepal participated in a workshop on "Pedagogical Model for the Open University of Nepal (OUN)" organized on January 4, 2012 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Kishor Thapa, Secretary of the Ministry of Education, and facilitated by Dr. Mohamed Ally, Professor of Distance Education, and Susan Bainbridge from Athabasca University, Canada. Upcoming Events

OLE Nepal and the Department of Education (DoE) are planning to organize interaction programs in March in three districts -- Banke, Solukhumbu, Baglung -- where ICT-integrated classes will be launched at the beginning of the new academic year with support from Finnish Government's Funds for Local Cooperation (FLC).
