The summer is short here in Minnesota, and this year it seems shorter than ever, so I'm calling this the "Summer" Newsletter with our brief blip up into the 80's and humidity. Please bear with me while I live in denial of our cool climate.
In the meantime, the children in Vietnam are entering the new school year due to your generous contributions and support.
Thank you for your kindness as we work to help the children who are in desperate need.

While enjoying the summer, we've been moving right along getting new board members up-to-speed, planning new events and keeping in touch with the schools as they plan for the new school year.
In this newsletter, we have lots of updates:
  • School News & Newsletter!
  • Vietnamese Gala - Join us October 12th
  • Wine Tasting - 15th Anniversary - Save the Date!
  • Golf Tournament Success
  • Building Bridges -- Fun Visits!
  • Charity Review Council Meets Standards Seal
  • Thank You and Ways to Give

School News

Lots of great things are happening at the Anh Linh School, and they are wrapped up in the current Anh Linh School newsletter. Amidst the struggles, the accomplishments are great! They continue to rise to the challenge with help from you and Bridges to Learning. Click here to access the letter

The school year started at the Viet Anh School as well. Unfortunately, they experienced flooding in the area during the summer, and related issues. From Sister Kim Ngoc, “In Da Teh, a few days of rain and flooding caused damage to people's fields. Many houses were flooded. Luckily our school is on high. Many roads are eroded. Some of our children have to go to school by motorbike so it's dangerous. The people's life is inherently difficult, is now even more difficult.  We are facing dengue fever, because water is everywhere and mosquitoes breed quickly. This year, we have 74 children in dormitory.”

Despite the problems, spirits are high and they kicked off another great year educating and nurturing the children, and providing hope for their futures.

Golf Tournament Success!

A Hole In One! Yes, the 1st Annual Golf Tournament was a hole in one, AND Chris Christofilis topped off the day with the amazing feat! What a terrific day of golf, fun, food, friends, and raising funds for the kiddos who need our help in Vietnam.

A special thanks goes to Linh Phan for organizing, arranging, and imploring others to create this great event! Of course, great thanks go to the team of volunteers, sponsors, donors, and the golfers who came out to this wonderful event.

The event was in early June and we are still basking in the glow of the fun, and looking forward to next year. Watch for details for the next tournament! Enjoy more pictures on Facebook

Charity Review Council
"Meets Standards" Organization!
We’re happy to announce that Bridges to Learning continues to be a Charities Review Council Meets Standards® organization! We earned the Meets Standards® seal by voluntarily participating in Charities Review Council’s review process. It is based on their 25 Accountability Standards®, a balance of nonprofit sector promising practices, public expectations, and legal requirements, representing the shared expectations between donors and nonprofits. The review process examined four key areas: Public Disclosure, Governance, Financial Activity, and Fundraising. Our practices, policies and procedures are aligned with widely accepted standards of accountability, leading us to greater strength, efficacy and to the achievement of the Meets Standards® seal. By participating in the review process, B2L demonstrates responsibility, integrity and transparency to donors as well as the general public. We hope it gives you an extra level of assurance when donating to B2L, or sponsoring the children.

Building Bridges - Fun Visits!

Ellen Klahn-Grove, the volunteer English teacher at Anh Linh school, was in Minnesota for the summer before returning for one more year at the school. We enjoyed catching up with her and receiving an update about the school, and finding ways to support each other.  Along with her teaching assignment, she will be leading extracurricular activities for the kids, and providing updates and photos to B2L. A huge thank you to Ellen for her support!

We caught up with Michael Tsun, a long time supporter of the Anh Linh school who was visiting Minneapolis for work and carved out time for dinner, dessert and building relationships for future support of the school. Michael grew up in Singapore and spent his summers volunteering at the Anh Linh School. He established a volunteer organization at the Singapore American School, called Outreach Vietnam. The organization provided volunteer opportunities for the students to help at the Anh Linh school too.
Thank You and Ways to Give!

Thank you for your support of Bridges to Learning and the kiddos in Vietnam.

As we move through the year, we hope that you will include us and the free schools we support in Vietnam in your giving plans. As we all know, children who have no education are destined to remain at the bottom of the society.  It's simply a matter of birth. Anh Linh Love School and Viet Anh Primary School offer opportunities for impoverished children to learn and thrive.
These kids have great hearts and minds and spirits that just need a hand up.
We can do that with your help!  Thank you.

There are many avenues for your support:

  • To fund special projects, or help with general operating expenses, please consider making a donation at:
  • If you'd like more information about sponsoring a child go to:
  • Does your company match donations? If so, please consider requesting a match for your donation to Bridges to Learning.
  • We learned of the Hubbard Broadcasting Foundation and the RCF Foundation grants through supporters of B2L. Do you know of any grant opportunities? Does your company, or foundation, offer grants? If so, please contact us at info@bridges2learning.org .
  • Volunteering is a great way to contribute to B2L and the schools. Please contact us at info@bridges2learning.org if you are interested. We are especially interested in helpers for our up-coming Wine Tasting!
