Hello <<First Name>>!  Wishing the happiest of holidays to you and all our vibrant neighbors. Here's the latest on what's happening in Littleton for December, 2022.

Belleview and Prince site to remain a vacant lot

A last-minute tabling by the Planning Commission of the Columbine Square Master Development Plan seems to have resulted in the application being withdrawn. The Planning Commission's action is puzzling and concerning, as the new land-use code is supposed to give property owners a greater degree of certainty with development applications that are expensive and time-consuming. Actions like this can keep property owners from proposing much needed housing and retail projects. And the failure to act on this means Littleton will not see over 150 new homes specifically for seniors (55+) and nearly 350 other homes. Instead: more time with acres of unused asphalt.

Get ready for a family-friendly social bike ride through Littleton!

This spring, in April 2023, Vibrant Littleton will kick off a recurring "social bike ride" around the streets and trails of Littleton. Plans are being drawn up for a twice monthly ride. The ride routes will be along comfortable, low-stress paths suitable for all ages. And each ride will include a stop (or two) at local cafes/eateries/parks for a drink or bite. More news and details about our casual social ride in upcoming VL newsletters. And tell your friends about it. The more riders, the merrier!

Reimagining Santa Fe Drive as a boulevard, not a freeway through Littleton

Vibrant Littleton enthusiast Patrick S. has been talking about a different direction for Santa Fe Drive (Hwy 85) as it passes through Littleton. His slideshow, "Boulevard vs. Bypass?" is a look at the corridor's past, present plans, and possible future. There's no debate that Santa Fe Dr. is a dangerous, loud, and challenging road — running right through the center of our city. Current plans for Santa Fe Dr. call for incremental changes to "improve" it, including potential future interchanges and more freeway-like treatment. "Boulevard vs. Bypass?" asks questions about where these plans take us. And offer a different vision of a slower, more town-friendly roadway. You can view "Boulevard vs. Bypass?" online from any device.

Defend Our City Charter: NO ON 300

Littleton voters could lose out to special interests in March 2023 referendum

March 7 is the date for a momentous vote that could change the Littleton City Charter, called "Ballot Question 300." The proposed charter change lowers the number of signatures needed to force votes within 90-150 days on any topic. In practice, this means holding off-cycle elections with far fewer participating voters. And these low-turnout decisions can then set city policy or undermine actions taken by our general election voters. Proponents of Ballot Question 300 cast it as being "pro-democracy" but we at Vibrant Littleton see it as only benefitting special interests who know that 'snap elections' held on random dates evades the larger participation of our community. Ballot Question 300 delivers even more power to these special interests, so we say No to BQ 300.

Get involved on local boards & commissions

Littleton has a slew of boards and commissions with important advisory roles in local governance. And they need your voice and energy to make them the best they can be. Applications are fairly simple -- and due by January 31, 2023. You can see a list of current vacancies on the Littleton city website. We encourage any of our VL members to step forward and apply. The application process is fairly simple and — huzzah — is now available using a simple Application Form found online.
