It's Summer!!! Almost. Want to welcome the members from the Red House Brook Chapter who were recently transferred into the WNY Chapter. We're glad to have you and are looking forward to working with you.

This newsletter is shorter than normal but packed with events taking place over the next few weeks. Some are for your enjoyment and for some we're asking for a couple hours of your time. Fishing Derbies, Stocking Studies with DEC or just hanging out talking fishing for a few hours. Please take a look and let us know if you can help out.

Have a safe and happy summer and we look forward to seeing everyone in person in September.

Thanks,
Jim Jowsey / Newsletter Editor-Membership-Outreach

DEC June Trout Stream Sampling Dates for June

Below is our trout stream sampling (electrofishing) schedule for the rest of June.  Again this year, you will only need to fill out a short volunteer form at the beginning of any day you come out to sample with us, rather than a detailed one ahead of time.  We always appreciate the extra hands to help with our sampling, but even if you just want to come to watch, that is fine too.  If you are planning to come on a given day, please let me know ahead of time, as it helps me to know if we will have enough people.

Contact Scott Cornett from DEC directly if you want to help with the sampling at scott.cornett@dec.ny.gov

Tuesday June 21 – East Koy Creek.  Meet at 9:30 AM at the Overholt Road DEC angler parking area.  This is a survey to evaluate the success of stocking a hybrid strain of brown trout, thus we will be shocking long sections of the stream these three days so we can handle as many fish as possible, looking for fin clipped stocked trout.  Also, we will doing a hot dog cookout for lunch this day, so please let me know if you wish to participate.

Wednesday June 22 – East Koy Creek.  Meet at Jordan Road, near the Letchworth High school at 9:15 AM.

Thursday June 23 – East Koy Creek.  Meet at the first large dirt pull off on Shearing Road, ¼ mile west of Rt. 19 in Gainesville at 9:15 AM.

Tuesday June 28 – Flynn Brook (Spring Brook). Meet at 9:15 AM at Sullivan Road.

Wednesday June 29th - Flynn Brook (Spring Brook).  Meet at 9:15 AM at the corner of Youngers and Clark Roads.  Note, we will likely be doing a site on upper Cattaraugus Creek in the afternoon this day.

Thursday June 30 – back up day if needed.

Veteran's Fishing Day

Board Member Ken Kinecki has been our liason with Wyoming County Veteran Services on the Veterans Fishing Day. The date is Wednesday July 13 (rain date July 14) and it will be held at the Wyoming County Fair site in Pike, NY. They will determine times soon. The event is open to all veterans - fishing and non-fishing AND they are looking to get some volunteers to help with set-up and clean-up, food and drink servers, assistance with fishing.

All volunteers will be provided with food (hot dogs, burgers, picnic foods) and drinks. We need to give them a number of volunteers by June 20 so they can include the number in their food and drinks budget.

Members can respond back to Ken by phone or text at 716-870-2644 or email at ken.kinecki@gmail.com.
