March 2022 Newsletter
What does home look like? What does home feel like? Who is home?
Visualization is a powerful thing. Vision boarding is a creative activity that combines meditation and collaging to help us put the ideas and dreams that live in our minds onto physical paper, turning dreams into goals, and goals into reality.
One Roof Chicago invites you to think big, to imagine your dream intergenerational community home. At our next community event, we will share creative space as we collect, create, and put together words, colors, and ideas of a dream home into virtual collages for a collective show of the ORC vision.
We warmly invite you to envision this space together -- if you're interested in intergenerational housing for our LGBTQIA+ communities, this is the space for you! Register below -- we look forward to seeing you! Preparation
You can create your vision board in your own physical space on paper or cardboard, and share it via your webcam OR add images and words you find on the web to a shared PowerPoint slide.
For the virtual slideshow option, all you will need is to know how to save, screenshot, and/or download images.
If you choose to do the physical vision board, here’s what you might need:
Physical Vision Board
Old magazines you don’t mind cutting
Writing utensils (markers, pencils, pens, etc)
Glue sticks or tape
Large piece of paper or piece of cardboard
Join The Care Plan, Renewal Memory Partners, and Howard Brown Health for the monthly Gather: LGBTQ+ Intergenerational Community Group!
Looking to meet new people?
Want to connect with a diverse group of LGBTQ+ individuals?
We do too and we hope you will join us every third Thursday for Gather: LGBTQ+ Intergenerational Community Group for a casual and fun discussion group. Gather is centered on the voices of our LGBTQ+ communities, but all are welcome to join.
Gather is supported by Howard Brown Health, The Care Plan, and Renewal Memory Partners.
One Roof Chicago is a new initiative to build an LGBTQ+-centered intergenerational community for older adults and young people most in need of affirming housing, meaningful connection, and career development. This project is the first of its kind nationwide and the fact that it’s happening here, in our home of Chicago, is a huge source of excitement and pride. As we build together, we do so informed by frameworks of Black Liberation, Harm Reduction, Healing Justice, Restorative Justice, Housing First, Positive Youth Development, and Trauma-Informed Care. We lead with intentional relationships, thoughtful practices, and community collaboration. Want to get involved? Email cathy at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions or interest.
