Having completed the analysis of the United Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement (JCBA), all four National Officers, our legal team, and members of the Joint Negotiating Committee met with the Company today to initiate discussions on how United’s JCBA impacts the total value of our JCBA under the “market-based in the aggregate” analysis.

Although both parties agree that the UAL JCBA positively impacts the value of the American JCBA, they have yet to reach agreement on the size of this impact in terms of a wage increase.

Where are we currently in the process?
At today’s meeting, each party verbally exchanged their positions, triggering Day 1 of the 15-day discussion period.

What is the next step?
Per the Negotiations Protocol Agreement (NPA), if an agreement is not reached within 15 days of today’s meeting, the dispute must be submitted to final and binding arbitration. While the parties will remain open to settling the case during the 15 day period, APFA has begun the process of seeking open hearing dates in the event that we end up going to arbitration.

If we end up going to arbitration, does either party get to choose the arbitrators?
The NPA specifically states that the parties must use the same three neutral arbitrators who heard the original arbitration case that led to our current contract.

While APFA hopes to reach an agreement outside of the arbitration process, we will be looking to our members to help us prepare for this case if a settlement is not reached. We are counting on a unified effort in securing the gains to which we are entitled.
