New Turbulence Terminology - LAA/LUS
For the past several months APFA and APA have been involved with a Turbulence Task Force that includes members of management as well as Flight Dispatch and Meteorology in order to simplify and standardize the turbulence terminology used between the Flight Deck and the Flight Attendants. As a result, we were able to reduce as many as eighteen (18) terms defining the different categories of turbulence down to three (3).
Effective with Revision Fourteen (14) to be pushed to the tablet on 15JUN16, you will see the following simplified categories of turbulence along with Turbulence Procedure Tables defining specific communications, actions, and procedures for each level of severity:
Proper understanding of the correct terminology will lead to better coordinated communication between crew members in order to reduce turbulence related injuries to our flight crews and passengers.

APFA is a strong and independent Union comprised of 25,000 hard-working Flight Attendants of American Airlines. Like any organization, opinions and interests are varied. What makes APFA unique, though, is its highly democratic process which allows members to make their voices heard through the direct election of their Union representatives and voting power on all Constitutional changes. APFA is proud of its membership’s diversity, passion, and advocacy.
