The people walking in darkness have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
ISAIAH 9:2,6
During the Advent season we look forward with hopeful anticipation to the coming of Christ - his birth and his return. This year, many of us are looking forward to Christmas and to a new year, with maybe a greater sense of anticipation than is normal. We’re eager to see the back of 2020, of COVID, and are straining to see the dawn of a new year. We are also, perhaps, more conscious of the brokenness of our world and eager to see the full coming of God’s kingdom of peace.

Of course, 2020 wasn’t all bad! Amongst many other positives, 9 men graduated from our full programme and 2 more from the reduced programme. This means that today 64% of our graduates are in recovery and a total of 24 men are drug/alcohol-free as a result of their time with Novō. Just as importantly, by joining the programme, more than 100 men – over half from the street – have taken strides towards recovery and encountered God’s grace and love, practically expressed, through Novō.

COVID restrictions have inevitably meant that with Novō Adventures we have simply had to hold on as best as possible this past year, as much of the worldwide tourism industry has done. However, on the plus side, the pause has given us the chance to reevaluate strategy and make important changes, based on the learning we’ve done over the past few years of operating. Changes include changes to our bike and truck fleets and new partnerships with companies to act as their Bolivian tour operator. If you’d like to read more, we’ve produced an update specific to Novō Adventures which you can see here: Novo Adventures update.

We’re now looking forward to our receiving our first customers of 2021 – a group in April with us for a 10-day blended 4x4/motorcycle trip to Macchu Picchu via the Sala
r de Uyuni! If you’ve always wanted to visit South America, why not start making plans for a trip this year, confident in the knowledge that your vacation spending will support a very good cause? For more information, check out www.novoadventures.com or send us a message.
2021 is set to be an exciting transition for Warren, Jackie, and the family. Having been a part of Novō from the start, Warren is moving into a new season and stepping down from his roles with Novō. Remaining in Bolivia, Warren’s passion continues to be helping people find new life in community.

Warren writes: “I began further training as a counsellor (building off my degree) and working towards an MA. This training has been deeply impactful for me and reaffirms that my heart is clear that the next season of ministry needs to have me working more closely with individuals who are hurting and needing care. I am also working to gather people who share a passion for what I am calling ReVillaging. I am inviting people who may have had success in work and business but realize that they lack connection, contribution, and service to begin to support one another and those in need around us in a more intentional and structured way. I am committed to building a more rich and authentic way of structuring our local communities inside of large urban environments.” If you’d like to read more about what lies ahead for the McCaigs, take a look at their latest newsletter.

As Novō – leadership, staff, and trustees – we want to express our heartfelt appreciation for everything Warren has contributed to Novō since it’s inception and for the role he has played in getting us to where we are today.
Looking forward, we’re full of anticipation for what 2021 will bring. We will continue to pursue the vision of bringing glory to God, new life to individuals, peace to families, and hope to communities. Whilst our focus is on the work in Santa Cruz and Novō Adventures, the truth is, the need for ‘cities of refuge’, where the hurting and broken can receive the restorative embrace of God and His people, is immense and intensifying.

We have 4 key priorities for the year ahead:
  • To consolidate the work in Santa Cruz, including our aftercare work with ex-residents.
  • To strengthen partnerships with others who have a heart for those battling addictions – e.g. a local mission team is hoping to start a simplified Novō programme inside the women’s prison.
  • To see Novō Adventures operating and contributing to our operating budget, along with our property/grounds maintenance business.
  • To find a long-term secure home for the community – the owner of Quinta Totaices has plans to sell the property.
In all of the above, we would greatly appreciate your prayers! We are particularly conscious of our need for God’s protection and provision, His grace for our staff team, and His blessing on Novō Adventures.

Thank you!

In closing, let us wish you a very happy Christmas and God's joy and peace in the coming year.

SUPPORTING NOVŌ

As we approach Christmas, would you consider making a ONE-OFF GIFT to Novō? Half of Novō’s monthly needs are now covered by regular monthly donations. However, we still need to raise £3,500/month for a budget made up almost exclusively of fixed expenses such as rent, salaries, utilities, and food. To donate, please click on the orange button below.

Looking ahead, why not look into becoming a NOVO PADRINO? It doesn’t have to be a life sentence! Your regular support in this way for a fixed period - perhaps just for 2021 - will make a lasting difference to residents, and their families.
