From John Dowling
Freestyle Program Director
Hi Team,
This week Riley and Hans will take a group of our US Selections skiers to Aspen for Friday,Saturday and Sunday for the RMF CSCUSA All Star camp. I was going to say it's our last weekend of training prior to the Winter Park Event, but I just learned that event has been cancelled due to lack of snow and the site not being ready. So it looks like we will have one more week training prior to US Selections.
Daily trainings on Gold Peak will continue here at home. I'm planning a rebuild of the course to include a top air. I'm hoping to have two airs in place by this weekend.
As you prepare for competition, work on the feeling that you want to have for your run and how you get ready at the top of the hill. Practicing your warm-up and pre comp rituals will help you cope on competition day. Using visualizations prior to (and after) training runs is a good start. Going through the kind of physical warm-ups that you will use on comp day helps build the right level of arousal for performance. Using key words for tactics in certain parts of the course can help keep you focused on performance or keep you in the moment. Beyond that, give some thought to what kind of competitor you want to be. Sometimes you don't have a choice in the events of the day, but you do have a choice in how you respond to those events.
See you on the hill!
