Congratulations to February's 3C Character, Courage and Commitment Athlete Award Winner: Kade Martin

“Kade has been on an absolute roll this season balancing his school work while performing at an incredibly high level. He started with a top ten in the first NorAm Halfpipe competition of the year in Mammoth, and followed it up with his first NorAm Halfpipe win in Calgary shortly after. Kade's hard work and dedication to snowboarding is seen every day, whether he is launching massive 1080's in the halfpipe or working on important foundational keys to bring his all around riding to the next level. On top of riding at his best and working toward the World Cup, Kade has maintained excellent grades and sets an example for all of his team mates. Kade is a pleasure to work with in any environment, and is by far deserving of this 3C nomination. Keep up the great work Kade!”. - Ronnie Barr- SSCV Head Snowboard Coach

Congratulations to the 3C February Athlete Nominee:

Jiah Cohen

Congratulations to March's 3C Character, Courage and Commitment Athlete Award Winner: Olivia Lisle

“Olivia has shown this winter that success comes with the courage, character and commitment to overcome challenges and push forward no matter what stands in your way. Starting the season late after coming off shoulder surgery, Olivia jumped right into competition getting back on the podium in her first Halfpipe competition, making her first NorAm cup final in mammoth and getting her first NorAm top 5 in Calgary, all while pushing hard in both Halfpipe and Slopestyle. This hard work got her a spot to represent the US at the FIS Junior World Championships in early March. It has been a true pleasure seeing her work so hard to achieve her goals this winter despite having multiple setbacks, and this hard work will continue to pay off as she moves forward.” - Ronnie Barr- SSCV Head Snowboard Coach

Congratulations to the 3C March Athlete Nominees:

Tyler Ciluzzi, Levi Flach and Garrett Marley

Congratulations to April's 3C Character, Courage and Commitment Athlete Award Winner: Gabe Fletcher

"This was this athlete's first year in 7th grade at VSSA and in the 12-14 age group at SSCV. He and his family had just moved up to the valley from Denver this past fall. This athlete showed up every day ready to train wether it be dry-land, tramps or on snow. At the beginning of this season there was a large gap between his skills and those of his teammates. However that didn't stop him, he worked his tail off and is now to the same leave as the team and also better than a few others. Whether that be skiing on his off day's or seeking other aerial coaches helps outside of SSCV for extra coaching. His drive to work hard this season was through the roof and it just goes to show, that if you want something bad enough you show up to training and listen to the feed back of your coaches and work hard... you will begin to climb to the top. I would have to say this athlete is my most improved on the team for this season." - Anonymous

Congratulations to the 3C April Athlete Nominees:

Haley Plumley, Henry Reynolds, Caden McCormick

Congratulations to February's and March's 3C Character, Courage and Commitment Staff Award Winner: Ian Hanbury

February Nomination - “Ian is a tremendously hard working team player. He is a wonderful, humanistic ski coach who truly connects with his athletes. Ian also is typically the first to show for any on-snow work projects, and the last to leave. The past two weeks we have seen Ian at his finest. As his coaching partner, I injured my knee, leaving him alone to manage the training for our entire team. Ian single handedly set full length GS and Super G courses, set the timing, put down dye, and just worked like an animal to make quality training for the girls every day that I was out. He then went to work with the operations department, watering the hill, pulling and resetting fence, and generally just continuing to work super hard through the end of each project. Ian has consistently put in 12-14 hour days, for days on end, and has done so with a sense of humor and the ability to still bring his best self to the athletes every single session…Ian’s efforts were rewarded during our qualifiers February 15-17, where every girl in our group qualified for the U16 Championships; an almost unheard of accomplishment.  I cannot think of a more deserving candidate for this honor.” - Adam Chadbourne - SSCV U16 Girls Coach

March Nomination #1 - "Ian Hanbury is one staff member that always is willing to step in and help for whatever the club is undertaking within the Alpine Program. Over the last month and a half, the Alpine staff was consistently completing on-hill operations for the success of the U18 National Championships. Ian, on top of coaching daily, was there for every hill preparation project. When the event started, and he was around, he would check in and support the operations of the event. Ian should be considered for the 3C award for this month for his commitment, courage and character to the cause of the U18 Nationals while completing his duties as a coach in the U16 WP program."  - Anonymous

March Nomination #2 - " Ian has consistently displayed a "whatever it takes" attitude, which was front and center over the past four weeks as we lead up to, and through, the SSCV-hosted U18 National Champs. Ian spent more days supporting the preparation and execution of the U18 event than any other coach on our staff...and, Ian is a U16 coach. His selfless attitude is the epitome of the 3C award as he put in numerous days/hours, above his normal U16 coaching responsibilities, to ensure the success of the U18 Champs. Thank you, Ian."   - Anonymous

Congratulations to April's 3C Character, Courage and Commitment Staff Award Winner: Taryn Miletti

"Taryn Miletti plays a pivotal role in the success of our SSCV-hosted events, as she handles the bulk of our off-hill logistics and coordination. This was on full display at our final alpine races of the season. Taryn starts her event days early by working with our Race Administrators on waiver compliance and other issues. She manages the volunteers and directs the ticket window operations. After most people are up on the hill, getting ready for race day, Taryn shifts to a multitude of other tasks like coordinating lunches and lunch distribution, setting up the PA for awards, staging flowers for the winners and providing the results lists to our announcers. And, that's only if it is a weekday event. When we are hosting events over the weekend, Taryn is balancing all of the event-related tasks with the normal flurry of activity that we see on any given Saturday or Sunday. Taryn's dedication to serving our membership is exemplary, and is on display every single time she interacts with staff, athletes, guests and our mountain liaisons. Thank you, Taryn, for all that you do!" - Anonymous

Important Club Announcements

Financial aid deadline: May 16, 2022

Ski & Snowboard Club Vail believes that no one should be restricted from participating in SSCV programs for financial reasons. The Scholarship Fund is utilized for financial aid awards and is funded by the generous donations, grants and sponsorships of our generous supporters including our staff contributing “For the Kids.”

The deadline to apply for financial aid for full-time athletes is May 16, 2022 and the deadline is October 17, 2022 for part-time athletes and any full-time athletes who miss the May 16, 2022 deadline.  Please make note that fall financial aid applicants will be required to make payments on their account prior to notification about financial aid awards. Click here to learn more

For those of you considering an application for financial aid with SSCV next season, here are some helpful tips about what to expect. Keep your tax documents handy because you will need them to apply for aid.  If you have not filed your 2021 returns, your application will very likely be delayed until the fall round as we cannot make an accurate needs assessment without the completed return.

1) Required documents
     – 2020 and 2021 tax returns including all schedules
     – Business tax returns for 2021 (if applicable)
     – 2021 W-2s for all jobs held
2) Completed Parent Financial Statement with SSS
3)  Completed SSCV Financial Aid Application

Applications now open through April 30, 2022 for
The Paul Cuthbertson Foundation Scholarship
