A Message from SSCV Member Services
Manager, Meg Rule

Global Rescue recommended for all traveling athletes

Summer Training camps are taking place and our kids are skiing faster than ever before. Although ski equipment is better designed, accidents do happen.

I want to alert you to the fact that medical insurance does not cover emergency medical evacuation; it covers hospital and doctor costs once you are in a hospital. These evacuations can often cost upwards of $100,000.

For those of you not familiar, Global Rescue is a service that fills this gap. Global Rescue provides worldwide medical evacuation from the slopes back to the member's home hospital of choice. Global Rescue is also the preferred provider of the US Ski Team along with many ski academies and clubs across North America.

Annual student memberships cost $259 and offer coverage anywhere in the world, including the US. Vail athletes and their families will receive a 5% discount at the time of purchase. Family plans are also available.

Benefits include:
  • Field Rescue from the point of illness or injury
  • Evacuation back to the member's home hospital of choice
  • 24 hour medical advisory services from critical care paramedics and in-house physicians
  • Deployable medical teams to the patient's bedside
  • Specialists at Johns Hopkins Medicine reviewing every case to ensure the best outcome
  • Global network of medical Centers of Excellence
  • Services provided up to a cost of $500,000
A Ski & Snowboard Club Vail athlete traveling internationally must have medical evacuation insurance in place prior to travel and we highly recommend Global Rescue. We also strongly recommend that other SSCV athletes who will be traveling, although not internationally, purchase a Global Rescue membership prior to travel.

Please visit www.globalrescue.com/sscv online to sign up directly on the internet. Also check out the Global Rescue video, featuring member testimonials and live footage of rescues. If you have questions, or would like to sign up on the telephone, you can call Global Rescue at 1-800-381-9754.

Ski safe and all the best!

Loads of Fun on  Ski & Snowboard Club Vail's Float

Many thanks to the athletes and parent volunteers who made the SSCV float at the Vail 4th of July Parade possible. Everyone had fun decorating the float, riding in or walking alongside it, and handing out candy and frozen treats to the huge crowds!

Kirsten Cooper

Alpine NorAm and PG Coach

Kirsten Cooper is slated to join the alpine coaching staff at Ski & Snowboard Club Vail in the fall working with NorAm and PG (post-graduate) level athletes after having spent time with SSCV athletes at camps. Kirsten recently graduated from CU with a 3.78 GPA in Integrative Physiology. She appeared on the Dean's List in 2010 and 2011 when she carried a 4.0 while also competing for the CU Ski Team. She is a Masters Candidate in Sports Psychology and is also a 500-hour Alliance Certified Yoga Teacher.  "Coop" as you will come to know her as, raced for the US Ski Team in 2007-2008.

We are thrilled to welcome Coop on our staff as her successful career as an alpine ski racer provides her with a great deal of practical experience and knowledge of the sport. Only being a few short years out of ski racing, she possesses the skills to relate and empathize with the pressures of the sport, including the psychological and physical demands required to be a thriving athlete.
