Snowboard Team Taking it to the Next Level

-March 1, 2016

Ski & Snowboard Club Vail’s Snowboard Program is in for an exciting end of season. With the Burton US Open in town this week watch for SSCV full-time athlete and Vail Ski & Snowboard Academy 8th grader Jack Coyne who qualified to compete in the return of the Burton US Open Junior Jam Halfpipe Competition. This action starts on March 1st featuring the next generation of riders ages 14 and under competing in the 22-foot superpipe. This is the breeding ground where many world-renowned pros first made a name for themselves. SSCV alumni Zoe Kalapos, Jake Pates and Ryan Wachendorfer are back on home turf and in the big show competing in the pro division later in the week.

Creating Life Long Opportunities

-February 23, 2016

If your six-year-old child is having fun skiing or snowboarding, can ski or ride Golden Peak and get on and off the chair by themselves, or has fundamental Nordic skiing skills, it may be the right time for them to join SSCV.  The lessons your child will learn both on and off the hill through the vehicle of a competitive snow sport can create life-changing opportunities. I witness this daily, from Future Stars to full-time student athletes at SSCV’s Academic Partners, Vail Ski & Snowboard Academy (VSSA), Vail Mountain School (VMS) and Winter Tutorial as high schoolers.

Dear SSCV Community,

Now that we are midway through this winter season, we'd like to remind you all again of the importance of your volunteer time. SSCV relies heavily on the support of the SSCV community to be fortunate enough to host our many home races and competitions throughout the season. Offering SSCV athletes the opportunity to miss less school, sleep in their own beds,  eat home cooked meals the night before an important race or competition and avoid travel related costs at home competitions is an advantage that requires the support of our community in order to continue. Please consider signing up to volunteer for the following upcoming events online. Reminder to current SSCV families-Failure to meet your seasonal requirement WILL result in the loss of Eagle County and Colorado discounts the following season.
  • U16 Junior Championships - March 12-17
  • Women's Noram Finals - March 19-21
  • IFSA Regional Big Mountain Competition - March 27
  • GS Spectacular - April 2 & 3 (scored race in Vail, non-scored race in Beaver Creek)
  • Alpine Surefoot Championships -  April 4-7
To view details on these volunteer opportunities, time slots and dates as well as to sign up, please go to and click on the Login/Enroll button along the top to sign into your mysscv account or contact for more information.  For non-SSCV members click here to sign up.

Thank you in advance for your donated time.

Freeskiers Compete in Back-to-Back USASA Slopestyle Events

Last weekend SSCV freeskiers doubled up on slopestyles trying to get the team the best chance possible for Nationals invitations. All in all, the team did very well, and improved their chances!

At Powderhorn, Jack Ganley's efforts put him on the podium with 3rd place skier men 13-15, and Dylan Boyes led the team in 4th followed by Lachlan Crick, Ryan Wedlake and Whit Hyde in skier boys 10-12. Brynn Wedlake of course aced another one!

Sunday at Keystone no podiums for the full-time team, but probably the nicest venue we have seen all year! Adam Eisenhauer was high scorer there in skier boys 10-12 landing in 4th. Sloane and Sydney Thompson went one and two in skier girls 9 and under, while Gavin Goike nailed the number 1 place in skier boys 9 and under.
