Minturn Fitness Center is for All Ages and Interests
- January 5, 2016

It is the time of year when many are focused on that New Year’s resolution to adopt a healthier lifestyle, get in shape and/or achieve a higher level of performance in their favorite sport.   The Minturn Fitness Center (MFC) at Maloit Park in Minturn is a unique place for adults of all ages to realize these goals due to its relationship with Ski & Snowboard Club Vail (SSCV) and the resources this makes available to the community.

MFC members have access to the same equipment, resources, knowledge base and staff available to SSCV full-time development level athletes as well as current and former SSCV Olympic, World Cup and National Team athletes.  Whether your passion is skiing, riding, cycling, mountain biking, an organized team sport or starting at ground zero to achieve fitness and well-being, the MFC has everything needed to jumpstart this effort.  MFC staff will set up a personalized fitness plan based on a functional movement screening to support all ages in achieving their short and long-term fitness and performance goals.

SSCV’s Human Performance Program
The SSCV Human Performance Program is in place to provide athletic resources to its full-time athletes year-round along with its coaches. The MFC staff of National Strength and Conditioning Association certified professionals provides industry leading advice in the world of sport science and strength and conditioning at all levels as well as peak mental performance and nutritional consultation.

SSCV Human Performance is tasked with the design and implementation of strength and conditioning programming for all full-time athletes at SSCV. Through its partnerships with the Steadman Philippon Research Institute, Denver University Sport Science and EXOS Performance Education, its programming is built on the latest research in the fields of performance training.

Passion and effort are differentiators
Even with all of these resources in place, in the end, it is the individual passion and effort put forth by the athlete that makes the difference.   Katie Collins, Dominik Lettovsky and Ryan Collins are three SSCV full-time alpine athletes who exhibit extraordinary passion and effort.

New Ski & Snowboard Club Vail Clubhouse "For the Kids"
- December 29, 2015

In keeping with our motto, “For the Kids”, SSCV is looking forward to accommodating the needs of our young skiers and snowboarders once the proposed clubhouse at Golden Peak is completed.  SSCV received Town of Vail approvals last year to build a new 28,000 square foot clubhouse along with 10,000 square feet of residential space at the site of the existing clubhouse on Vail Valley Drive at Golden Peak.

Although the slope side location of the current clubhouse provides convenient ski in/ski out access to athletes, it was constructed in 1977 and the second story added in 1986 when the Club had less than 100 participants. SSCV now has more than 100 coaches and 600 athletes. Built with community volunteers and donations of time and materials from many of the local contractors, the club’s home has served the community well for almost 40 years.

Peak Performance

Blog Post from Erin Beskid

Freedom + Passion = Performance

Hi Families,

Happy New Year!

In this post I will reflect on and review a podcast that I listened to recently.

In this series Michael Gervais interviews people who have found excellence.  The series is called Finding Mastery. Mastery refers to true skill, not just result. Results come from mastery but they are two separate ideas.

Gervais asks a few critical questions to each person he interviews.

Specifically he tries to listen and learn about their journey and what brought them to now.

He asks how do they understand the world and what mental skills do they use? He is trying to understand the framework from which they work.

His interviewee for this podcast is Karch Kirlay who has 3 olympic gold medals in both beach and indoor volleyball and now coaches the women’s national volleyball team.

So what can we learn from Gevrais and Kirlay?
