A Warm Welcome to the CLBC Board’s New Member

We are pleased to announce that Onkar Biring has been appointed to CLBC’s Board of Directors. 
 
Onkar brings a variety of skills and experiences to his new role as a Board Member. As a self-advocate, he will help to ensure that the perspectives of individuals we serve are thoughtfully reflected in all of the Board’s discussions and decision making.

Onkar lives in Surrey and is active in the disability community. He is passionate about leadership and motivational speaking, and has a goal to help others overcome challenges of all kinds by setting individual goals and striving to achieve them.
 
Please join us in congratulating Onkar and welcoming him to his new role.
 
Editorial Board Update

On October 10, CLBC’s Editorial Board of self advocates and family members from across the province met.

Next steps for the board include developing the first Editorial Board edition of The Citizen newsletter.

You can have your say in the future of the Citizen by taking the online survey here until November 5.

Self Advocate Net Web Manager Wanted!

SelfAdvocateNet.com is looking to fill the position of Website Manager.

This position will help to manage the site made by self advocates for self advocates. The ideal candidate is able to work a maximum of 10 hours per week, and will be familiar with WordPress.

WOW! An Opportunity to Recognize Inclusive Employers

This year for the WOW! Awards, we are asking people to nominate employers who are helping to build workplaces where employees feel welcome, valued and respected.

If there is an employer you would like to nominate, click here. You can also visit your local CLBC office for a nomination form.

The deadline to submit a nomination is 5:00pm on Sunday, November 30, 2014.
 
New Commitment Web Page

Beginning later today, CLBC will have a new home page for its website. This new home page features the CLBC Commitment design.

The new page also has links to helpful resources, and videos of self advocates, family members and CLBC staff talking about what the commitment means to them.

You will still be able to access the familiar CLBC website by clicking the prominent “Home” button at the top of the screen.

Welcome CLBC’s New Communications Director

Please join us in welcoming Randy Schmidt who will be joining CLBC as its new Director of Communications on November 10.

Randy comes to CLBC with a personal interest in helping build inclusive communities. He is the father of a child with physical challenges and each year contributes time to fundraising and community building for the sector.
