June 2019
June is in full bloom and we’ve got your dance card covered at the Patterson Library this whole month! Come check out our material displays on gardening, painting, Juneteenth, and Pride. We have two film series running this month, our World War II Film Series, featuring “Das Boot” on  Tuesday 6/18, “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” on Friday 6/21, and “The Eagle Has Landed” on Thursday 6/27 all at 6 PM in the Octagon Gallery. These films complement our Octagon Art Gallery opening: “A Mighty Endeavor: A tribute to the men & women who made the world safe for Democracy during WWII” curated by Nancy Nixon Ensign, Charles Freedom Long, and Joel Hornick on Friday 6/14 at 7 PM.

Our second film series is a Pride Month Film Series, featuring “Call Me By Your Name” on Tuesday 6/11, “From Selma to Stonewall: Are We There Yet?” on Thursday 6/20, “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” on Tuesday 6/25, and “The Favourite” on Friday 6/28, all at 6 PM in the Octagon Gallery. The newly formed Westfield Chapter of P-FLAG will meet on Thursday, 6/20 at 6 PM during the screening of “From Selma to Stonewall” and will hold its regularly scheduled meeting after the film, commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the NYC Stonewall riots.

Cybersecurity Expert Tracy Mitrano will present a workshop on internet safety for children and families on Thursday 6/13 in the Main Reading Room. On Friday 6/14, the library will host Twe’Evening for all 10 – 12 year old's in the area, from 5 PM – 7 PM, and then host Teen Night for all 13 – 19 year old's from 7 PM – 10 PM.

From 10 AM – 4 PM on Wednesday and Thursday 6/19 & 20, Katherine Galbraith will teach Plein Air painting in the pergola garden; please call the front desk to register for this free class. Last, but not least, the Culinary Creations Club will prepare and enjoy dishes from Delectable France this month of Wednesday 6/26 at noon in the Main Reading Room. Remember that every Tuesday at 1 PM, the Knitter-Knatter Club meeting in the Main Reading Room to knit, crochet, quilt, and craft. Also on Friday’s at 9:30 AM, we host Storytime Fun in Patterson Park!

Please come down to the library now to register for the Summer Reading Program: “A Universe of Stories”. We have a great line up of special guests every Monday in July, and into August, as well as special Summer Reading Story groups every Wednesday from 9:15 AM – 3 PM. The Teens will meet every other Friday for special Teen Night Summer Reading Program events, and we have Summer Reading Program events and a book group for adults.
