Victories for the LGBT Bar: Help Keep Them Coming

With LGBT rights under attack, the LGBT Bar remains focused on tirelessly working towards helping our community and educating our legal professionals in order to prepare them in the fight against injustice. As an update to our work:

Yesterday, DC Councilmember David Grosso introduced a bill to ban the use of gay and trans 'panic' defenses, entitled the Secure A Fair & Equitable (S.A.F.E.) Trial Act, in cases of both homicide and assault. The LGBT Bar remains focused on ending the use of these discriminatory defenses. Councilmember Grosso's willingness to joins us in the fight to eliminate such unfathomable bias in our justice system speaks to his concern for the citizens of DC. For more information on the LGBT Bar's work on this matter, please visit our website

Additionally, we would like to announce that earlier this week the American Bar Association passed resolution 112D. This resolution, spearheaded by the LGBT Bar, calls for the FDA to eliminate its one-year gay blood ban in favor of an individual risk assessment. After witnessing firsthand our community's inability to help in the aftermath of the Pulse Nightclub massacre, the need to end this ban is clearer than ever.

We will also continue to host call-ins to educate our members on important legal issues and developments. Your support, by donating to The Bar, renewing your membership,or becoming a new member will allow us to continue our important policy and educational work.

Tune in next Tuesday, February 14th, at 12:30 pm ET for our call-in addressing the Administrative Procedure Act (APA). Find out how the drastic change in leadership and the potential defunding of agencies by the Trump Administration can affect the many regulations protecting us. Targets may include LGBT rights, access to health care, hospital visitation rights, and clean air.
