STICKLEBACKS  TO  SKATE

DAVID TIPPING

This new book is probably the first of its kind - a book that looks at species hunting in the UK and Ireland and which covers over 80 species.

Species hunting is about nature in its diversity - the shapes, colours and secrets of fish which few anglers will ever see, let alone catch. It is one of the few remaining aspects of angling in which there is still scope for a pioneer - there are no articles, books or DVDs which tell you how, where and when to catch a stone loach or a viviparous blenny.

To the dedicated species hunter, a rare fish which sits comfortably in the palm of a hand can be just as exhilarating to catch as the biggest, fattest carp that ever swam. Indeed, species hunting can be a refreshing antidote to the biggest-is-best culture which pervades modern angling

Sticklebacks to Skate is a collection of entertaining, informative and often amusing stories from a lifetime of species hunting - over 50 years of chasing rare and unusual fish.

GRAYLING
and How to Catch Them

FRANCIS WALBRAN

A beautiful new edition of a rare book. Francis Maximilian Walbran was the eldest son of a Yorkshire wine merchant. He started fishing at the age of twelve and on becoming a chemist augmented his income by writing for the Fishing Gazette, the Leeds Mercury and The Field. His deep interest in traditional North Country fly patterns led him to publish a few fishing books, including this classic. In 1892 he founded the Tanfield Angling Club on the Ure where he fished in the company of angling giants such as Francis Francis and Frederic Halford. Grayling and How to Catch Them, published in 1895, was his last book - and in it his writing verges on the poetic and includes, rather hauntingly, a passage in which he appears to presage his own death - an accident whilst fishing his beloved Ure.

GRAYLING IS A LIMITED EDITION OF ONLY 250 COPIES
Some other great books due

Salmon Fishing
and the Story of the River Tweed

BILL QUARRY

This 432-page full colour book is certainly the biggest and most lavish book we have ever published but the quality of the content more than matched that of the production as you can see from some of the press reviews:

'the best fishing book I have read for a very long time . . . a masterpiece' -
Sandy Leventon, Trout & Salmon

'a gigantic labour of love . . . [this book] has made any other book about the river superfluous for the forseeable future' -  Tom Fort, Gamefisher

'[a] compendious book . . . I have fished these waters since 1969 and yet learned much from the book' - David Profumo, Country Life
