Sage Hill Inn Above Onion Creek
 
HILL COUNTRY, TEXAS—The Inn Above Onion Creek, a luxe boutique inn nestled on nearly ninety acres of lush terrain outside the Capitol City, has a new look and new name—Sage Hill Inn Above Onion Creek. The new name reflects the refurbished property’s increased focus on dining and ecological responsibility. 

The new owners, two visionary dot-commers from Austin—Eric Goldreyer, the founder of BedandBreakfast.com, and John Banczak, the president of the company—have reconfigured everything since purchasing the inn in 2012. The result is a well-conceived concept and property with careful attention to conservation, design elements, luxurious furnishings, and natural aesthetics. 

Sage Hill Inn features fourteen guest suites that have been restored, from flat-screen TVs to stylish finishes and chic beddings. Four private cottages feature amenities ranging from a gourmet kitchen with stainless-steel appliances to a decadent bath with river stone flooring and a view of the double-sided fireplace from the stand-alone tub. Oversized porches and a private hot tub in secluded nearby woods provide excellent vantage points to take in the natural surroundings.

Improvements extend to the grounds as well, including a new 3,000-square-foot deck around the pool and an oversized 14-person hot tub, perfect for watching the sun set; a huge custom outdoor fire pit, with a seating area large enough for 20 patrons to take in the scenic surroundings; new landscaping and pathways made of crushed granite that lead to hammocks, miles of hiking and birding trails, and an organic garden that is home to many herbs and vegetables used in the kitchen; an extensive 10,000-gallon rainwater catchment that works with the existing grey-water system to irrigate the property; a greenhouse and composting area to provide the kitchen with fresh, locally-sourced produce; a newly furnished porch off the main house that features alfresco dining and a lounge area for relaxing; remolded common areas and the library, which is stocked with myriad books and games; and infrastructure items such as a modernized kitchen with increased refrigeration and cooking capabilities, increased hot-water capacity, and extensive conversions to LED lights and lower-flow shower heads. 

The new Garden Spa features single and double massage rooms as well as a lounge and outdoor covered porch overlooking the garden for quiet meditation or relaxation. A  knowledgeable staff focused on therapeutic techniques and an expansive menu of treatment options—including Swedish and deep tissue massages, hot stone therapy utilizing stones worn smooth from Onion Creek, and wraps and warm oil scalp and foot massages that feature indigenous plants and local herbs such as lavender, sage, and juniper—make the spa an incredible space to reenergize. 

Dinner is served in the award-winning Restaurant at Sage Hill, where executive chef Ryan Castille creates prix fixe menus derived from fresh produce grown in the garden and seasonal ingredients from local purveyors, including Dewberry Hills Farms, Brazos Valley Cheese, and Farm to Table Austin. Craft beers and fine wines will soon be served on the property as well.
