Drones market map. Vice Media raises. Smart cities.

Who let the dogs out?

Hi there,

If you're attending The Future of Fintech and didn't get your mobile app details that will allow you to start messaging other attendees and set up meetings, please ping events@cbinsights.com.

That's sick

Last week, we asked you which tech topic you were getting sick of. And it looks like the most folks are tiring of the drama at Uber.

Drone on

We identified over 70 leading private companies in the drones space and categorized them into the twelve main categories in which they operate.

Who's down with NVP? Ya, you know me

By the way, Norwest is also gearing up for an event in San Francisco tomorrow night (June 21) that you might want to check out. It's titled:

Media madness

Digital media company Vice Media closed its fourth 9-figure financing round on Monday with a $450M private equity raise financed by TPG Capital.

In light of this news, we looked at digital media financing activity and top deals in the space since 2012. All three of the top mega-rounds to date took place this quarter, including Vice's $450M round in the third spot.

Tech week

Yesterday, tech CEOs and executives met with President Donald Trump to kick off a series of discussions for the White House's first American Technology Council meeting. Among the topics, infrastructure is one area where Trump has pledged a focus.

We put together a market map of startups working to build smarter cities, including categories from transportation to connectivity to urban planning, and more.

Wise words

Peter Drucker is smart.

There is a great essay on the Y Combinator blog about minimum viable products (see The Blurb) which cites our report on why startups fail. It contains this quote which is pretty fantastic.
