While existing unicorns are desperately holding onto their $1B+ status, the new unicorn birth rate is dropping. 

Just 69 fintech unicorns were born in 2022, down 58% year-over-year.

The slowdown is apparent on a quarterly basis too — in Q4’22, new fintech unicorn births (5) hit their lowest level since 2020.
