Here is this week in charts.

Samuel is a very bad boy. Alleged amphetamine-imbibing fraudster Samuel Bankman-Fried saw FTX and his web of companies implode last week, filing for bankruptcy while owing $8B to reportedly 1M creditors. But where is their value to be found? We used CB Insights data to map out every investment & M&A holding (nearly 200) in SBF's tangled crypto web to understand the top 10 most valuable holdings that bankruptcy courts and creditors may want to go after. Generative generation. AI models have quickly moved from the analysis of preexisting content to the production of entirely new creations. For example, DALL-E is an AI model that can generate an original digital image from a natural language prompt (e.g., "a venture capitalist riding a llama") — and the sophistication of these “generative AI models” continues to rise. This is because they’re being trained on a rapidly increasing amount of compute resources, which jumped by 6 orders of magnitude in the 5 years leading up to the launch of the GPT-3 language model. 

Sequoia Capital recently mapped some of the players in the generative AI space. We used CB Insights data to build it out further in this generative AI market landscape, which tracks 250 startups in the space. Customers can see the full generative AI landscape here.

IT could be worse. In the face of rising interest rates, inflation, and warnings of a recession, information technology (IT) investment in the US is still holding strong. Spending on IT tech (as a percentage of GDP) has dipped recently, but it is still higher than it was in the years leading up to the onset of the pandemic. Making connections. Telematics solutions — which enable the collection of data from distributed sources — are allowing insurers to access real-time driving data. This enables them to more accurately price policies, provide personalized insurance products, and more. Given the potential benefits, insurers have been researching this technology for decades — with State Farm and Allstate leading the pack in the number of granted telematics patents. No regrets. More than 7 in 10 computer/information science graduates don’t regret their choice of college major. Criminology graduates are equally satisfied with their chosen career path, and engineers follow closely in the third place spot. On the flip side, the most regretted college majors are journalism (87% would pick a different major), sociology (72%), and liberal arts/general studies (72%).
