That’s not to discount the serious damage that the Covid-19 pandemic has dealt to the micromobility industry, especially in the early days when people were hesitant to leave their homes and demand plummeted. Bird and Lime laid off a collective 450+ employees between March and April. 

But it’s hard to overlook the benefits of a single-rider, open air transit alternative that allows for control over social distancing and has fewer points of contact than a bus or train would. Europe’s already enabling this shift, closing off miles of roads for scooters, bikes, and pedestrians.
