The aim of this meeting is to update everyone on ministry while Covid restrictions remain, the state of the Cathedral repairs, our finances, and important plans beyond. Skillful Service
Minister's Letter- Sandy Grant

Recently in my early morning Bible reading, I was struck by Proverbs 22:29…

Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank.

We sometimes downplay skill or capability in favour of character and convictions. And character is critical, because capability, without character, can be used to gain success without concern for God’s glory or moral conduct. Likewise, skills used in service of the wrong convictions can simply promote falsehood more efficiently.

But the proverb considers skill to be noteworthy, even likely to earn promotion. This lines up with my own prep for preaching Chronicles. Skill in every kind of work is appreciated there: stonecutters, masons and carpenters (1 Chr 22:15), metalsmiths, textile workers, engravers and timber cutters (2 Chr 2:7-8); the trained and skilled in music for the Lord (1 Chr 25:7). These skills were valued for the Temple in Jerusalem. Why would we want to serve King of all Creation with second rate skills or effort in his ‘dwelling place’?

News & Notices

Karina Brabham
Our new CMS link missionary
will be ‘with’ us very soon - August 15-20. God willing, Karina will head to France in January. We will hear a little from her on Sunday 15th and there will be opportunities to hear further during the week. Currently, we are planning for an ‘all welcome’ Zoom event on both Monday and Tuesday evenings. Stacey would be glad to hear from you if you are willing to help host such an event (from home), or if you are willing to host Karina on Zoom for a daytime event, whether for a growth group or for your family or a few friends. It doesn’t need to be long - half an hour for afternoon tea with you and your kids, a gathering at lunchtime. Maybe someone in your household can brush up their French! The circumstances make incidental meeting of people much more difficult, so we’d love for Karina to be able to meet as many people as possible.
