This enews marks the first major milestone of this Inquiry, the release of our Issues Paper! It’s a week or two later than we flagged in our “save the date” enews – but the extra time has been well spent. Graeme Innes, myself and the team have been on a veritable consultation roadshow! In Albury we met with Belvoir Special School, Aware Industries, and the Mercy Centre. We attended the Disability Advocacy and Information Service’s AGM and Criminal Justice Forum, then headed to Canberra, where we met with a range of government departments, including the National Disability Insurance Agency. Last week we hit the road again, this time to Brisbane where we met with service providers and advocacy groups as well as the Public Advocate and a number of individuals with disability. It’s been a pleasure and a privilege to experience the passion and dedication of people working in the sector and to meet carers and people with disability, to hear about the barriers they face as well as their achievements. I’d like to thank, on behalf of the team, everybody who has taken the time to meet with us. Once we have dusted ourselves off and given you all a chance to read our Issues Paper, we look forward to embarking on another round of consultations.
In the meantime, feel free to say ‘hi’ to me on Twitter @RosCroucher. I’m new to the Twittersphere and I’m looking forward to connecting with the disability community online. I’ll tweet comings and goings of the Inquiry team and general goings-on at the ALRC, and probably indulge my love of legal history trivia!
