The Ravines June 2018

Are You Listening?

We live in a world which is fast-paced, full and loud. We have media, social media, work, kids, parents - we have more messages in an hour than we can begin to process.

When was the last time you sat, face to face, looking your spouse in the eye, listening to what they had to say? Listened without the noise of TV or your phone, you just listened.

God at Work

About 220 people “comfortably squeezed” into the banquet room at The Lighthouse Restaurant for the annual Ravines Celebration Banquet. It's always fun to walk through the room as old and new friends come together for this special time. The restaurant is located just a few miles from The Ravines, where God is at work in the lives of individuals, couples and families.

Two couples shared their stories on video. Mike and Jen drove from the East Coast in 2014 to come to The Ravines. She was curled up in the backseat, silent the whole way, in deep pain because of their broken relationship. Today, they minister to other hurting couples by honestly sharing their story which includes the healing God showed them was possible at The Ravines.

Mike and Susan told of their trip to The Ravines being their last chance – their divorce papers were in the car. Before they left to go home, those papers were shredded and they are now more committed than ever.

We were privileged to hear Amy tell her story in person of how she encouraged friends to come to The Ravines before giving up on their marriage. “I didn’t really know what went on there,” she shared. “But it made enough of a difference that my friends didn’t talk about getting a divorce any more. So the next time I learned of friends with a marriage in trouble, I encouraged them to head to The Ravines, too.”

Amy shared how she and her husband were saving for a boat. But when their friends’ marriage was sinking, they felt that money could go to a better, a longer-term use. Amy and her husband paid the deposit so their friends could come to The Ravines.

Funds raised on this evening provide scholarship funds for couples who need some financial assistance to get the help they need. We had a “God-sized goal” this year of $100,000. He amazed us by providing more than $90,000. We are so grateful for everyone who gave so generously to help. When couples call and express how there is no way they can afford to come to The Ravines, it is a gift to be able to share that scholarship funds are available. About one-half of our couples need financial assistance – so these funds will surely be used before too long.

Thank you for caring. Thank you for supporting this ministry which continues to serve couples from across the country and beyond!

Host Couples Needed

We need a few more host couples to serve an occasional two to four days at The Ravines. Our hosts are key to the couples’ experience.

“Our hosts were warm and gracious and made us feel so at home while we were there.” This is a common response to our wonderful team of hosts.

Sound like something you’d enjoy? Contact Grace for more information at You may be just the couple our team is missing!

Mid-year update

We have served 42 couples through June 2018. A grant from the Indiana Veteran’s Administration has provided financial assistance for several couples. That grant ended in June – and we are very grateful the VA designated The Ravines as “an approved vendor.”

What’s next?

Watch for news of a fall campaign to help with some projects around the property. Just like with your home, things wear out. We have a “wish list” of some improvements and we’ll be asking for help in the fall to bring some of these projects from “wish” to “reality.”

Staff changes

We were sad to lose Dana Smith, our Business Manager, to North Carolina. She and her family are relocating there because of her husband’s job. But thankfully we will continue to access Dana’s wonderful IT gifts remotely. Please pray for the Smith family in this time of major transition!

Grace Trovato is new to the staff. Grace is already making a big difference by caring for multiple administrative tasks. We are thankful for Grace’s sweet spirit and deep caring for the work. If you haven’t already, you’ll be meeting Grace on the phone soon!
