waterfall kohala big island hawaii

Aloha Hump Day

Just take a breath:
After shooting swimsuit models under this freezing Kohala waterfall I held back to grab a few nature images for myself. The models and crew went ahead using ropes to climb out of the remote valley. I knew I only had a few moments before I would hear my name echoing off the ancient lava walls.
To get the whole waterfall in the shot I had to scrunch my back up against the opposite wall; a gushy, stinky, bug infested wet decaying foliage wall of jungle poo that wasn't smelling too good.
Thank God Hawaii has no snakes but I was more worried about the huge centipedes and whining models.
The light was totally washed out and not much water coming over the falls, just an average Big Island postcard...... then this lonely little Volkswagen sized rain cloud comes cruzin’ by and completely covers the sun for just a second or two.... allowing me to take a deep breath, slow down the camera to a 1/2 second to make this dreamy time exposure.
Take a deep breath and slow it down.....got it.
