Peacemaking student receives DSA Rev. Andrew J. Thon, S.J. Award for Leadership

We congratulate Max Bertellotti (Arts & Sciences ’16) for being selected as the recipient of the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) 2016 Rev. Andrew J. Thon, S.J. Award for Leadership. This award honors a graduating senior for leadership contributions that have increased in depth and breadth to the Marquette and Milwaukee communities during the course of his or her undergraduate career. This is the highest honor presented by the Division of Student Affairs and is for a student leader who embodies the ideals expressed in the University Mission.

Max's involvement with the Center for Peacemaking has been extensive: he served as a Catholic Relief Services (CRS) student ambassador, completed an honors program seminar taught by Center for Peacemaking staff, and worked as a research assistant on the PARC initiative.

Earlier this month Rev. T. Michael McNulty, S.J., scholar in residence at the Center for Peacemaking, celebrated Mass in gratitude and remembrance for the life and work of Rev. Daniel J. Berrigan, S.J.

Through the mass and a student's newspaper article for the Marquette Wire, Berrigan's commitment to non-violence, care for our brothers and sisters around the globe, and peacemaking was shared across campus.

PARC initiative featured in Marquette Magazine

The PARC initiative is highlighted in the Spring 2016 edition of Marquette Magazine as one way Marquette is taking an active role in being a good neighbor. Patrick Kennelly, principal investigator of the PARC initiative, leads community partners, Marquette students, and faculty to gather and analyze data on civic engagement, crime, and economic spending to strategically implement interventions. Read the article to learn more about PARC and how students like Shivani Chokshi, a peace studies major, are making a difference on Milwaukee's Near West Side.
