The NorCal State Cup is one of the premier soccer events for youth soccer teams in Northern California. It starts in the Fall with round-robin pools that lead into single-elimination brackets in the spring. The 17UG Silver Cup began with 23 teams in March. Last Sunday, it was down to two teams in the championship match at Cosumnes River College — a hometown showdown featuring AYSO United Davis vs Legacy.

United got off to an early start leading 1-0 at half time. Their next goal would come in the second half putting the ladies in red up 2-0 with 24 minutes remaining in regulation. However, Legacy wouldn’t go away easily and sent waves of attackers forward to move the needle in their favor. They got a glimpse of success when an arching shot went in with about 8 minutes left. But, as the referee blew that final whistle, the scoreline stood at 2-1 — and the Gatorade celebration and others commenced!

NorCal Premier recorded the entire game that can viewed here. Goals are at 26:09 (United), 80:17 (United), 101:57 (Legacy). Congratulations to a fantastic group of 2005 and 2006 players from both teams that showed the importance of teamwork, hard work, and above all fun with your friends to a packed sideline of Davisites.

If you are a player born in 2008-2004 that wants to be a part of what is happening, tryouts for these age groups are right around the corner. United players are competitive soccer players that compete against other clubs in our area. They are classmates, teammates, and friends that make soccer a priority while also cheering each other on in other activities like school sports and clubs.

Please note that in order to accommodate the many junior high soccer players participating in the end-of-season Track and Field meet after school next week, we will move girls tryouts to 5:30 pm on Mon, Tues and Wed and be on the field until 6:45 pm each evening.
