MEAHI Conference - Dubai, 22-24 April 2013

The 4th Middle East Conference on Healthcare Informatics, with the theme "Applied Health Informatics: A Regional Trend or a Priority?" will be held on 22 - 24 April 2013 at the Hotel Crowne Plaza Deira in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The event is being organised by the Middle East Association for Health Informatics (MEAHI - www.meahi.org), which brings together IMIA members in the region. In support of the event, the IMIA Board will meet in Dubai. The website is continuously updated with details of the conference hotel, international advisory board, registration, and other material. Dr. Ramin Moghaddam, Conference Chair and MEAHI Founding President, invites all colleagues to participate in this event. The conference aims to explore further the role of informatics in healthcare, and pragmatic informatics-driven approaches to enhance healthcare quality services based on regional needs and an inspired strategy: “Better Health Through Better Information". Themes will include 'From eHealth policy to practice', education and research, public health informatics, clinical informatics, and nursing informatics. MEAHI General Assembly, MEAHI-NI Meeting

The MEAHI General Assembly (GA) will be held on 23 April, 2013 at 4-6 pm in the Al Thuraya Ballroom, Crown Plaza Deira, Dubai, UAE. The meeting will be open to all 4th MEAHI conference registrants as provisional members to attend. Among items of business will be an overview of MEAHI, election of MEAHI board officers for the forthcoming period, and plans for the next MEAHI meeting. Further announcements of arrangements will be made on the MEAHI website (www.meahi.org).

The inaugural meeting of MEAHI-NI (nursing informatics) activities will be held on 23 April, 2013 at 2-4 pm at the Crown Plaza Deira, Dubai, UAE. Further details to come via the MEAHI website.

Medinfo2013 - Registration Open

The Medinfo2013 website has been updated with information on registration fees and deadlines - see http://www.medinfo2013.dk/registration Registration is now open. Early bird rates close on 15 April.

Francophone SIG CFP - Medinfo Symposium

The IMIA Francophone SIG is organising a French-speaking scientific track as a pre-symposium associated with the Medinfo2013 conference. Further details of the Call for Submissions can be found in French and English on the SIG website at http://francophonesig.imia.info The deadline for submission is April 5, 2013. The call spans the MEDINFO topics, with special emphasis on issues specific to Francophone countries or which involve the processing of French language. Submission format uses the same stylesheet as MEDINFO; both long (5 pages) and short (2 pages, work in progress) papers are solicited. The Czech Society of Biomedical Engineering and Medical Informatics and the European Federation of Medical Informatics (EFMI) will host the 2013 EFMI Special Topic Conference (STC), “Data and Knowledge for Medical Decision Support”, in Prague, Czech Republic, on April 17-19, 2013. The EFMI STC 2013 is continuing the series of successful EFMI STC conferences. It is one of the most important European events in the domains of biomedicine including health care and informatics covering information science and technology. HON Foundation Seeks Your Feedback on Rules Used on Forums, Blogs, etc.

In May 2012, HON asked for opinions on proposed Web 2.0 guidelines for HONcode certified websites. Based on the invaluable feedback received, HON has made some modifications to the proposed guidelines.  By conducting this follow-up survey, HON aim to find out whether the modifications have improved the proposed guidelines regarding usefulness, clarity and practicality. HON would like to ask you to fill in this follow-up questionnaire, which will take about 15 minutes. Call for Papers: "Methods" Focus Theme on Data from Ambient Assisted Living and Smart Homes in EHR

Petra Knaup and Lothar Schöpe (guest editors) invite submissions of papers for the Focus Theme on “Using Data from Ambient Assisted Living and Smart Homes in Electronic Health Records” in Methods of Information in Medicine. 2013 Transnational Summit on Trustworthy Use of Data for Health

IMIA is pleased to announce that it will host the 2013 Transnational Summit on Trustworthy Use of Data for Health (http://dataforhealth.imia.info) (note revised name and URL) on 3-4 June 2013 in Brussels, Belgium at Le Plaza Hotel. The Summit will build on the discussions and activities initiated at the 2012 European Summit on Trustworthy Reuse of Health Data, and at a recent consultation hosted by the WHO in Geneva. Summit participation will by invitation only. NI2014 - 12th International Congress of Nursing Informatics

NI 2014, the 12th International Congress on Nursing Informatics, will be held at the Taipei International Convention Center (very near to Taipei 101) on June 21-25, 2014.

NI2014 The theme of the conference is “eSmart + ” where “e” stands for eHealth, “S” implies simplicity, “m” represents mobility and meaningful use, “a” denotes advanced leadership, “r” indicates revolution, “t” means translational technologies, and “+” symbolizes People Leading uCare Safely. The acronym is also used to convey the idea of adopting smart technology to help health providers deliver higher quality care. The call for submissions will open in early April, and will close in mid-September 2013. Decisions will be notified by mid-December 2013. Jim Turley

As many nursing informatics colleagues will be aware, our colleague Jim Turley (recently retired after 25 years as Associate Professor, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston) was biking on 17 March (Tour de Houston) and collapsed from a heart attack en route. He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital where he remains in critical care, although now is making steady improvements. World of Health IT, eHealth Week 2013 - Dublin, Ireland

eHealth Week 2013 will be held at the Dublin Convention Centre, Dublin, Ireland on 13-15 May, 2013. It will bring together two main events: the High Level eHealth Conference co-organised by the European Commission and the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and WoHIT (World of Health IT Conference & Exhibition) organised by HIMSS Europe. The event not only brings industry partners and providers from across Europe, but also important government and regional decision makers. The venue will be Kensington Town Hall. The event will be in collaboration with the Oxford Internet Institute, University College London, and other partners.
