Charlotte Welcomes the Pros This Week

It's Wells Fargo Championship week and Charlotte welcomes the PGA Tour back to Quail Hollow Club after last year’s tournament was cancelled due to the pandemic. While I have still never teed it up at Quail Hollow (if you have connections, please introduce me!), I have attended the tournament there every year Charlotte has hosted it, going back to 2003. I will be out there on Friday this week. Stop me and say hi if you see me. I’m usually pretty easy to spot.

Three Charlotte Area Courses Getting New Greens

The trend of converting older Bent grass greens to Bermuda continues this summer with renovations planned at Harry L. Jones, Tradition and Birkdale. The Harry L. Jones work is already underway with a target re-opening date of July 1. The renovations at Tradition and Birkdale will follow this summer. Stay tuned for closure dates and updates on all 3 projects.

Stonebridge (4/23) - 4.5 stars - “The course was in really good shape. Fairways were almost perfect for playing the ball down. The greens were smooth and moderately quick. Playing here was most enjoyable and worth the drive.”

Tradition (4/11) - 4 stars - “Greens were in good condition for this time of year. Fairways were in decent shape. Definitely worth playing and a friendly staff as well.”

The Most Heroic Round You’ll Ever Play

Last weekend, I enjoyed the thrill of a lifetime in my role as the Social Media Director for TripCaddie.com when I took part in the opening ceremonies for American Dunes in Grand Haven, Michigan. This Jack Nicklaus design was built to fulfill the vision of Lt. Col. Dan Rooney and the mission of Folds of Honor – “Honor Their Sacrifice, Educate Their Legacy.

I was one of the first to play the course on Saturday and then on Sunday I got to meet Jack (and his wife Barbara) and ask him a question at the press conference. Afterward, he took time out to film an encouraging message with me for one of his lifelong fans (my Dad!). You can see all the photos and videos from the weekend on the TripCaddie Instagram but I’ve included a few below. Go listen to the podcast we did with Doug Bell, the GM, to hear all about the course and join the mission!

Join Me at Big Cedar Lodge in October

Speaking of TripCaddie.com, I will be leading their next Ready-Made Golf Trip to Big Cedar Lodge this October. We have booked rooms and tee times for 3 nights and 5 rounds of golf, including Tiger Woods’ first public design in the U.S. – Payne’s Valley. Bring your group of 4 or more and join me on this ultimate bucket list trip. Each group can play their own games and hang out on their own. We’ve simply taken care of the logistics for you and secured the best price so you just have to pay and show up. I’ll be the host for the trip and am coordinating a Charlotte group. Check out the details on the TripCaddie web site and shoot me a note if you want to be part of it.

Ball Markers and Logo Balls For Your Group Events

Every April I take a big group trip down to Barefoot Resort in Myrtle Beach with 24 guys for our annual Stouter Invitational. For this year’s event, I was one of the team captains and wanted to do something special for the whole group. I had a local artist make a caricature from a photo of our group leader and namesake for the event. I then worked with two of my sponsors to make ball markers and logo golf balls with the caricature. I have to give a big shout out to Sketch Golf and FoundGolfBalls.com for their work. See for yourself! If you need help getting something like this done for your group, shoot me a msg and I'll hook you up.
