Welcome to Screenworks April eNews. In this edition we have an impressive range of film experiences to offer you including the regional premiere of the Australian film Drown with the filmmaker as guest speaker, a special screening of Charlie's Country with Rolf de Heer in conversation with Rhoda Roberts and we have a double pass to give away to a session at the Spanish Film Festival in Byron Bay.  We are pleased to announce a partnership with The Production Book, plus news from our members on their productions and activities and information on upcoming AFTRS courses, festivals and scholarships.  Scroll through and read on to find out more, or click on the links to go to the stories that interest you.

ART EXHIBITION

Northern Rivers Community Gallery, Ballina


Screenworks Board Member, Media Artist Grayson Cooke has an exhibition of his most recent art at the Gallery in Ballina.  

AgX is an art-science project about memory and forgetting, it features time-lapse macro-photography of photographic negatives being chemically destroyed. This work has been exhibited in galleries in Taipei, Berlin and Washington DC, and next month will be featured at the WRO Wroclaw Media Art Biennale, one of Europe’s biggest festivals of media art.  But this month it is coming to Ballina, make sure you get along to see this exciting exhibition...more

 

EXPOSED: REST YOUR EYES PRODUCTION

For Exposed this month, we spoke to Screenworks member Jonatan Lundmark about his Byron Bay based production company Rest Your Eyes Production. 


This full service production company has become well known locally through the many films they have created for the numerous iconic Northern Rivers brands.  Their fresh style, professionalism and ability to capture the essence of their subjects has seen this small local production company grow and attract national and international clients.

Rest Your Eyes Production are one of the 3 teams selected for Screenworks Createability project, that will produce a short documentary film profiling the work and life of artists with disability living and creating in the region...more

SCREENWRITING SHORT COURSES @ AFTRS OPEN


AFTRS Open has a large variety of upcoming screenwriting courses some run online, which you can do them from the comfort of your own home, and others are in Sydney.

In April there’s WRITING FOR TV (10 weeks, online) and WEBISODES FROM IDEA TO PITCH (8 weeks, online) plus in Sydney: INTRODUCTION TO SCREENWRITING and the practical SCRIPT EDITING FOR TV with Alexa Wyatt.

In May there’s the brand new SCENE WRITING WORKSHOP,the popular GIRLS ON FILM: CREATING UNFORGETTABLE FEMALE CHARACTERS and Tim Ferguson returns with his NARRATIVE COMEDY MASTERCLASS.

Plus WINTER SCHOOL five day intensives return in July with SHORT FILM SCREENWRITNG and WRITING FOR TV INTENSIVE.

SPANISH FILM FESTIVAL

DOUBLE PASS GIVE AWAY

Screenworks has a double pass to any festival film, excluding opening and closing night to give away to a lucky Screenworks member. The winner will be drawn at Screenworks office on April 27 and notified by phone and email.

FLICKERFEST TO GRAFTON

Friday 1st May

Flickerfest will screen an entertaining, inspiring and award-winning programme featuring some of the best Australian shorts, giving local audiences an opportunity to watch the hottest short films from around the country.

FUNDING & EMPLOYMENT

REGIONAL ARTIST SCHOLARSHIPS


The NSW Young Regional Artist Scholarships are open to artists and performers from all art forms, including dance, design, digital arts, history, Aboriginal arts, literature, music, theatre, screen and the visual arts. Scholarships are worth $10,000 each and are a great opportunity for young artists (18-25) in regional NSW to get support for professional development or a project in their chosen field. 

25 Scholarships will be offered in 2015. More detail is in the Guidelines which are on the Arts NSW website. Closing date is 11 June.
