Happy New Year! The spring semester brings new goals and new adventures for many, most especially, our students. Encourage your student(s) to take advantage of all that Georgia Tech has to offer from trips abroad with Study Abroad, to working on their resume or polishing their interviewing skills with the Center for Career Discovery and Development, to staying healthy at the Campus Recreation Center. Graduating students often share that they wished they had taken more time to experience some of the numerous opportunities that Georgia Tech has to offer before they graduated. Encourage your student to get involved, try something new, and take advantage of opportunities at Georgia Tech and in Atlanta!

The Parent & Family Programs staff enjoy the spring semester for many reasons, but mainly because we love hosting Sibs Day! Sibs Day, held on Saturday, February 11, is an educational and fun way for children and youth, ages 7-17, learn what their Georgia Tech siblings do while they are away from home. Big brothers and sisters enjoy spending quality time with their younger siblings and sharing their Yellow Jacket pride! For more information about Sibs Day, visit http://parents.gatech.edu/content/sibs-day

Let us know how we can help you throughout the spring semester by calling Parent & Family Programs at 404-385-1396 or by emailing parents@gatech.edu.

Wishing you and your family all the best in 2017!

What are your hopes for this semester?
As with the new calendar year, the new semester brings opportunities to make resolutions for change. If last semester’s grades did not meet your student’s expectations, remind your son or daughter that you love them no matter what, let him or her identify possible challenge areas, and discuss plans for improvement for the spring semester. Perhaps your student is eager to get more involved on campus or has goals to do community service work. Identifying those goals now, in order to meet deadlines, will help your student get closer to achieving them.

What are you doing this summer?
You may have already started talking about this, but for most students, making summer plans is hard to do before winter break. Students can use employment opportunities to try out career options and gain valuable leadership skills. They can also build their resume with relevant internships and study abroad opportunities.
This semester, 17 educational and cultural events will take place on campus thanks to your donations to the Parents Fund. In addition, we are pleased to announce that 14 students have received Student Leadership Grants from the Parents Fund, and will take part in individual professional development activities this semester. Your gifts are making a world of difference for Georgia Tech students. Thank you for your support!

To make a secure, tax deductible gift to the Parents Fund, please go to www.parents.gatech.edu and click on “Make a Gift.”
