We’re feeling spooky and getting in the mood for Halloween with homemade costumes, decorations, and an ode to our favorite crafty Harry Potter character, Luna Lovegood. Make Luna's Extraordinary Elixir and set up a potion station that works some magic using chemistry. You can make it too using our printable labels and magic spell (a.k.a. recipe)!

Diana Eng Natalie Zee Drieu

Developed from the fizzy lemonade experiment, (here it is on Scientific American) we created Luna’s Extraordinary Elixir inspired by our love for the magical world of Harry Potter. With Dirigible Plums as the acid (lemons), Cornish Pixie Dust as the base (baking soda), it makes a fun Halloween party drink.

For enhanced magical powers, customize your potion with: Baneberry (Teleportation), Boom Berries (Healing), Horklump Juice (Telepathy), Mandrake Leaves (Super hearing), Knotgrass (Shapeshifting), & Star Grass (Levitation).
