Happy Tails: Simon

This poor pup had a rough start- he was dumped in someone's yard along with his 3 siblings, but things sure seemed to have turned around for Simon! Through a long distance adoption program, Simon was transported to the North East and adopted by a wonderful family. Here's the latest update from Simon's forever home:

The pooch is awesome and livin it up here in the North East.  We celebrated his 1yr birthday this week.  He has really matured and is a perfect dog.  He has been well trained and needs no leash.  Totally amazing dog.  We take him everywhere we go and is a great adventure buddy.

Here is a shot of him on the paddle board with Lyn out in the ocean, and another with him flying with me in my airplane.

Featured Dog: Daisy
Meet Daisy! She's been with Pup Squad for a long time now, and we just don't understand why! While we don't know a lot about her, (3-4 year old, Pit/Pointer/Lab, maybe?), we do know that Daisy is one sweet dog!
She just wants someone to love her unconditionally, and we promise that she'll do the same for you. Daisy is crate trained and housebroken, so she'll make for an easy companion. She prefers the company of her people, so Daisy wouldn't mind being the only 4-legged member of the family. Could you be the perfect fit for Daisy? She's been patiently waiting for the perfect forever home, so please don't hesitate to share her story!

Would you like to meet her or buy her a treat?

Featured Volunteer:
Ali Shah-
    Volunteer Education Coordinator

Ali has been helpful to Pup Squad in more ways than we could ever count!  He is on the Pup Squad advisory board as our Volunteer Education Coordinator, and  not only is Ali instrumental in the education of Pup Squad volunteers, he brings donuts and kolaches every Saturday whether he is volunteering that day or not! He has a sense of humor that makes everyone’s day better, and his good nature doesn't end there! Ali has stepped in to be a foster when PS was in a bind; he pup-sits for fosters when they go out of town, and the list goes on and on.
1)      How did you find out about Pup Squad?
I live in downtown and stumbled across Pup Squad while on a bike ride with my daughter.  She and I volunteered together for a while and even though she doesn’t have the time to volunteer, I have to be told to go home!
2)      Tell us about your “real” job.
I have two jobs.  My “day job” is as a medical officer at the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department where I am responsible for the healthcare of the juveniles in my facility.  My other job is as a college professor.  I teach Health Sciences to college credit and high school dual credit students.  I have been a firefighter/paramedic for a little over 10 years and just recently have “retired” from the fire department to take up teaching full time.  Pup Squad is my third volunteer education position.  I was the volunteer coordinator for the Boy Scouts Explorer program through the fire department and also assisted in volunteer education at Catholic Charities.
3)      Tell us a bit more about yourself.
I went to OU so I am a diehard Sooner fan.  I went to grad school at UH so I’m learning to like the Cougars as well.  I’m a nerd on the inside and will read math and physics textbooks for fun.   I’m starting a chess club at my college.  I like cheesecake…I really like cheesecake…and ice cream.

We are so thankful for Ali taking a bike ride right into Pup Squad’s life! Thank you so much to Ali for all that you do!

Tidbit Tip:
C.A.L.M. - Commands, Attitude, Leadership, and Manners Program

Pup Squad and trainer Heather Toutloff are very excited to present the C.A.L.M. course and the dogs currently enrolled! This program was developed by Heather in an effort to make Pup Squad dogs and pups that much more adoptable!

The C.A.L.M. course (basic) covers more than thirty key points that will help make your new dog a happier, healthier, and yes - a more calm companion! Dogs learn a little bit of everything; from basic and intermediate obedience, to things that are just considered good manners. The goal of this course is to start these dogs on the right path, and to guide you on how to help them finish their training. C.A.L.M. owners learn how to train their newly adopted Pup Squad dogs – free of charge - right next to a professional dog trainer. If you don’t have the desire to learn how to train your dog, check out our dogs who have already graduated and ask to set up a meeting to see what they’ve learned!! If you are the perfect home for one of our C.A.L.M. dogs, he or she will make a remarkable addition to your family.

Pup Squad currently has three dogs participating in the C.A.L.M.program and 2 more who have already graduated! To learn more about these fantastic dogs, please visit the Pup Squad website here.
