Nehemiah 8 & 9, A People Gathering Around the Word
Our Nehemiah series is wrapping up with two more weeks to go.  This week, for the first time, Ezra appears in the book of Nehemiah.  Ezra has already been in the Jerusalem area for 15 years bringing the Word of God to life again in the surrounding community.  But now, with the wall around Jerusalem completed, he takes center stage as he reads the Word of God in the presence of all the people.
The people gather at dawn and Ezra, standing on a raised platform begins to read the law of God.  And Ezra doesn't stop until late afternoon.  So what is the response of the people?  They are weeping!!!  What's that all about? Come Sunday and hear all about it.
See you Sunday,
Pastor Mark
Communion Sunday
Due to Mark's accident last week, Communion Sunday has been moved to this coming Sunday, August 28.  Please take time to prepare yourself to receive this gracious gift from the Lord.

Creek Cleanup Last Saturday
Many thanks to all who helped with the Creek Cleanup last Saturday. We had a great turnout and it really looks good in that back area--much more kid friendly. Thanks again.  You all are the best!! Debbie

Fun Time at the Final Neighborhood BBQ + Kids Field Day
Last night we had a wonderful time at the BBQ.  Despite the cool and wet weather, which drove us inside, lots of folks from Crestview and the neighborhood were in attendance. We pushed the furniture against the walls and the children had their field day games in the Fellowship Hall--a gold or silver medal for each child.  Jackie LaMaire did a fantastic job of organizing such fun games--young and old alike were delighted.  A special thanks goes to Steve Wallace who took care of the setup, grilling and cleanup for every BBQ.

Tangled on Tanglewood: Knit and crochet group.
The purpose of this group is to create community around something we enjoy while  learning to authentically live out our faith.  If this sounds good to you but don't know how to knit or crochet, thats okay.  I love to teach and have taught knitting and crochet for BVSD LifeLong Learning.  Anyone over 14 welcome.  For more info please text Eileen at 720 244-6024 or email me at
Community Garden Plans at Crestview
Over the last few months a garden committee, (Mark, Deone, Jess, Eleanor and Eileen) have been looking into the possibility of a community garden on Crestview's large plot of land. We are still in the planning stages and would welcome feedback, comments and anyone interested in becoming more involved - either in the planning process, or tending a plot next year.

Please keep this project in your prayers - that we can build not just garden plots, but lasting relationships and community as well. And that there may be many opportunities to extend God's love and grace to our corner of Boulder.

Request from CRC Office of Social Justice
Refugee Resettlement Advocacy Opportunity - CRC members and congregations are active now and have helped historically to resettle refugees from Iraq, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Cuba, Vietnam, and elsewhere. Your voice is needed to continue this powerful legacy: Write to your members of Congress today in support of refugee resettlement funding at The U.S. government has committed to resettle 100,000 refugees in 2017, an increase from 2016. Your members of Congress need to hear from the faith community that an increase in funding is necessary to continue resettling refugees in the U.S.

Dinner for Eight
This Sunday, Aug. 28 is your last chance to sign up.  This is a great opportunity to develop deeper relationships with your fellow Christ-followers at Crestview.. You'll be able to choose either meeting with Adults Only, Whole Families, or Either of the Above.  Groups of ~8 adults OR ~3 Whole Families meet for dinner once-a-month for 4 months.  Hosting of the dinner rotates among the group, and everyone brings food.  It’s also an opportunity to invite 1-2 friends you may have been wanting to invite to Crestview, and here's your chance to introduce them to others from your church in a fun setting.  Sign-up is available until August 28.  Groups meet September - December, 2016.  Find the sign-up sheet at the hutch in the Fellowship Hall or you can contact Muffie VanAndel (303) 444-7036 or

Jess & Danny to do Light the Night Walk
Our very own Danny Painter and Jessica Jenks are participating in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk in Denver on September 29, 2016.  The walk is to raise money for blood cancer patient treatments.  One of their really good friends, Zoe, had leukemia and is in remission but still needs to take a pill every day for the rest of her life.  (Zoe also works for the local Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in Denver.)  If you are interested in sponsoring Jess and/or Dan for this very good cause that would be “awesome.”  Just click on their fund raising pages below:
If anyone is interested in participating in the event, please contact Danny at and he will send you more information.
