The End of a Journey…
the Beginning of a New Adventure
It was May 8, within 24 hours of our arrival in Ecuador, and we were in a taxi. Jeff struck up a conversation with the taxi driver, whom we will call Juan, and soon found out he was going through a crisis. His lifestyle had led to a broken family and loss of employment. Jeff brought up the principle of sowing and reaping, and Juan immediately admitted that he was reaping the consequences of his wrong actions. Jeff tried to encourage Juan with the words of Apostle Paul: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (1 Corinthians 5:17). In such a short conversation, it was difficult to discern exactly where Juan was in his spiritual journey, but we were glad for the opportunity to plant a seed. This experience made us stop and reflect on how many people are in similar situations and need a word of hope, especially in Loja, Ecuador, where less than 1% of the people understand what it means to be a new creation in Christ.
We are excited to be in Loja! We thank the Lord for all of you who have accompanied us on this journey through your prayers, words of encouragement and financial partnership. We look forward to the great adventure of serving the Lord here in the “Forgotten Province.” We have enjoyed getting to know the SIM-Ecuador team and learning about the city of Loja. Please pray that, as we work through all the details involved in getting settled here (finding a house, buying furniture, lots of paperwork, etc.), we would make the most of every opportunity to share God’s love and truth with the people around us who need to hear. Thank you!
